dan-wesson-1-1.jpgImage Enlarger

Just purchased a used Dan Wesson and didn't know what I was doing.  I was in a local gun shop in Jacksonville Fl and was wanting to purchase a 357.  After showing me several new 357's and seeing  wasn't interested, he asked me if I would consider a used revolver.  I said let me see it.  He handed me a Dan Wesson (unknown model) and said that he really wanted to buy it, but didn't have the $$.  The gun felt like it was born for my hand, had some scratches and felt a little heavy.  He wanted 479.99.  I told him that I had never heard of a Dan before and if I was going to spend that much, I should buy new.  He said "let me see what I can do".  After some more negotiation and the gun feeling more like it was made for my hand, he offered it to me for 399 with a box of 38 spl ammo and threw in a S&W box.  Ipick it up Thur of this week.  I am trying to upload a pic of it.

Can anyone tell me the age, model number, and where I might find a pistol Pac for it?  It has Monson on it and sn 599XX.  $" barrel.

Welcome to the forum from PA, and congrats on a nice looking older Dan Wesson. Looking at the serial # chart in our archives, I would say it was built around 1976. It is a model 15-2. I highly recommend getting a barrel wrench from EWK Arms, his ad is to the right on this screen. If you want pac parts, surf Ebay or Gunbroker.

I could be wrong, but I think your grip is Powerwood, an artificial wood that Dan Wesson used for only a couple years. I have one that looks like yours.

Looks like it's in very nice shape, I think you got it at a good price. Let us know how it shoots!

Thanks to all.  I have learned a lot about the DW revolver in the last few days.  I really like the feel of the gun in my hand and guess I got an OK deal.  Shooting a 357 mag with that 4" barrel might  be challenging.  I really want to start looking for an 8-10" barrel for it.  Will the porkchop barrels fit the model 15-2?  I seen an 8" SS berrel and shroud on gun broker for sale.  That might look a little weird with a blue frame though.  Thanks for the help identifying what I bought.  I feel real comfortable with the purcase now.  Now for putting some lead throught it this weekend.laughing

Pork chop won't fit the -2 guns, different frame design.  There are a number of 15-2 barrel assemblies on ebay now.  You can use a stainless one, but as you noted, it will look a bit odd.

You might look at EWK's barrel assemblies, the EH (extra heavy) shroud might be just what you want to tame the 4 inch barrel, and they are a lot less money than DW shrouds. Of course, you may have to wait til he makes some more. I'll be getting one as soon as he has some more.big-grin

Thanks,  I'll look at ebay and contact EWK.  Hope he is in the mood to make a 357 barrl and shroud in 8 or 10".

Congrats on your cool score!occasion

You have an early 15-2 with a pinned front sight, which is relatively rare as far as 15-2's go. Any of the later barrels with interchangeable sights will fit just fine (just a little FYI). The manufacture year could be late 1975, through sometime in 1976.

Pistol Pac cases can often be found on Gun Broker, Ebay & other online auction sites. Extra barrel assemblies can also be found there, although prices are all over the place these days.
