Sunday I took out my new/used 15-2. The guys I was shooting with use paper plates as a target. I did not hit the plate at all, everyone tried to see where the bullet was going and decided I was shooting high left. Monday I was going to the range with a friend, when I took the gun out of the safe I was looking at the rear sight and it was very loose. I took the allen wrench and snugged it up slightly. when we got to the range it was still shooting high left. I then snugged the elevation screw and it was better but still high left at 25 feet. If I remove and reset the barrel will that change my POI ? Should I have to re-zero every time the barrel is removed? I am very new to this and would like to learn. Thank you for any help!

Welcome to the mad house known as DWF. If I understand what you did. You only moved the elevation screw so that should only effect elevation. Did you adjust windage? Removing and replacing the barrel may or may not effect POI, normally not much though, unless your barrel is bent then all bets are off. My suggestion is to check everything, clean everything, try different ammo, and see if a pattern emerges. Others with more and better advice will be along shortly.

Here's how I usually sight in a new to me revolver: Clean & check function, barrel gap etc.. Use a boresight if you have one cause it will at least get you on the paper for the first shot. Use a silhouette size target. Use some type of rest in order to steady the gun and get consistency in order to remove variables like bad techniques. Always use the same sight picture (alignment of front & rear sights with point of aim on the target) - again for consistency. Fire 3 - 5 rounds to see where they group. Adjust windage or elevation then shoot another group. Keep adjusting the same thing (windage or elevation) until you get the group where you want it in that plane. Then start adjusting the other axis one group at a time until your poi is right on poa.
Unless there is something wrong with your gun, it will eventually adjust to the right spot. If it cannot be adjusted to where you want it, or if the rear sight is way off to one side for example, then you know there is a problem. Most guns will adjust to shoot accurately with a little patience.
Good luck & let us know.

Hello Ray,
I think there are a couple things going on here. First is you state you have a "wobbly" sight blade. This is the piece with the slot in it. This is fairly common on some DW and is the reason that good replacements sell for 50-75 0n ebay with Millet sights going for 100 plus. Tightening the allen screw or vertical adjust screw..WILL NOT fix this. Those screws are only for the sight adjustment. There is a thread in this forum that talks about disassembly of the DW sight to fix the looseness, but its not easy to do for an average guy and requires fabrication of a special little tool.
I suggest that download a DW manual . This shows how to adjust your sights properly. Start by centering the sight blade and then vertical adjust sight a bout two turns after you bottom it out. If you become a site supporter for 25 bucks, all types of info and manuals are available. It a very good investment for a wonderful web site if you like Dan Wessons, and good gun loving people !
I doubt your barrel is bent but get a wrench from EWK and take off the barrel assembly. Roll the barrel tube on a piece of glass or other flat surface. If you see any light under the barrel anywhere ...its bent . Eric at EWK can straighten it for you
You should be able to outshoot your friends easily once you get it dialed in and replace or fix the rear sight.
Good Luck- HUGELK

Ray,
If indeed, you need to replace your rear sight, the least expensive replacement is a rear sight for the Ruger GP100 & Blackhawk. Brownell's has this sight for $15.99 plus shipping. It fits the 15-2 perfectly. It would be a great interim sight to use while you look for and save up for an original.
If you do need a new original sight, put a photo of your sight on the Forum and there's a chance one of the members will have one they are willing to part with.
