Picked up a nice Monson .22 the other day 47XX, cant believe how accurate this revolver is. I always wanted a Dan Wesson but they were just always out of reach for one reason or another.

New guy question, is it possible to replace the cylinder and barrel liner to .38/.357 and have a two caliber revolver?

No. The barrel threads in the frame are different for a .357 tube and I'm not even sure if the firing pin is in the same location of the frame. Also doubt the Rimfire Spring would hit the centerfire primer hard enough. I'm sure there's many more reasons.

Thank you, I'm having trouble figuring out how to determine year of manufacture, serial 47XX.

1979, and at a guess, pretty early that year

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

As far as I can tell, the spring and firing position are the same as a 15-2. Dan Wesson made the barrel threads different  in order to prevent the use of multiple calibers. Liability was the issue. What if someone left the 22 barrel on when they put in a 357 cylinder?  However, if you can acquire a 22 mag cylinder you can use the 22 lr barrel. Yes, the 22s are extremely accurate. I know this is sacrilege, but an early K 22 is also very accurate.

Be careful to keep the gun tilted to the left and keep your index and middle fingers of your left hand pushed through the frame holding the cylinder open when you eject cases. The cylinder tends to want to close while the star is extended and will put nasty scratches on the sideplate.

Did you do a compression test on the Spring power or just a visual comparison? Interesting that the Firing Pin is in the same location in the frame .. they must have designed the bore location in the cylinder to align the pin with the rim of the cartridge.

I was wondering what made those odd scratches on the side plate, that was the only thing that was wrong with this revolver when I got it, ill make sure not to make them any worse, thank you.
