new to me dan not showing accuracty i expected.

i have a new to me 715. the accuracy isnt what i expected. i shot 1 dan before, and i couldnt miss with it. this one? not so much.
i shot it side by side with a smith 586, the 4 inch 586 ran circles around the 6 inch dan. i have a real hard time believing this gun wont shoot better than this. what do i need to look at?

I know, it's a crazy concept, we like to know who we are conversing with.
Just a SUGGESTION
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
