Was that the 21/2" Model 12 that was just on GB? If so you got a good deal. IMHO. I don't think that was the serial number. It may be on the crane. Only a very few of the first guns were on the tang I think.
The first change Dan Wesson made to the new gun was to change the hand by putting a groove on the back edge of it to accommodate the end of the hand spring. Prior to that the end of the piano wire spring wrapped around the hand and rubbed against the sideplate causing an early failure of the spring. I replaced my spring after a failure shortly after I bought it. I bought the Model 12 thinking those big rear sights would help my aim. Well, it wasn't the rear sight. I needed trifocals to be able to see the front sight clear enough. So, I retired the model 12 to the safe. If I was going to shoot it a lot I would obtain from ebay a newer hand and spring. Supposedly the hand is a factory repair but I have found most used hands will time right.

It was the 2.5" off or gunbroker. I just got it in yesterday. I am happy with it so far, filthy but it cleaned up easily enough. Shoots great for a 2.5 " gun. I seen no one was bidding on it on gunbroker, figured i would give it a good home. I already started to collect DW accidentally, bought my first 15-2 years ago and liked it so much i just keep my eyes open for others. I have come into a 6" 44 mag, an 8" 22, an 8" 357 maximum, and an 8".375supermag so this one should feel right at home. I will post pictures as soon as i get home, seems i cant post them from my phone.
