I just got my first Dan Wesson. It\'s a W-12 in a, I believe, mixmaster pistol pack. It came with a 6\", 4\" and 2\" barrels and shrouds. I think the case is an original. Not sure about the foam which is a grey color. The top is kinda eggcrate like with a solid flat piece of foam in the bottom and a piece of 3/4\" foam with cutouts in the middle. Serial number is 5721. Came with 2 pairs of grips, smooth and checkered finger groove. The 2\" and 6\" barrels are recessed nut and the 4\" is an external nut. It appears to be missing the windage adjustment screw on the rear sight. It also has tools for both types of barrel and 2 feeler gauges. I have a few questions. Did the pistol packs ever have just 3 barrels, or were they all 4 barrel sets? Where is a good place to source the sight screw? The case is hard black plastic and aluminum with the aforementioned grey foam. Does this sound like an original pistol pack case or is it a repurposed clarinet case? The foam only has cutouts for the barrels I have, the tools, the extra grip and an approx. 2 1/2\"X5\" rectangle.rnEven though I\'m sure I paid too much, I\'m happy. I can\'t wait to get that rear sight sorted and get it to the range.

Okay, first. Without pictures I am notsure but I highly doubt it is an original case or an original pack. The two internal barrel nut shrouds date from the 10,000+ serial number range. Only the 12 sided tool without insert came with the models 11 and 12. You will find the two interior nut barrels are 1/4" shorter than they should be. 21/4" and 53/4". They are from a model 15.
Yes, porkchops only came with 3 barrels. No 8". The checkered finger groove grips do not sound proper. Early Dans had the Smooth Sacramento grip, but it is possible they could be checkered. A rear sight screw may be tough to find. eBay may be your only option unless you can find a screw to fit the threads at Ace or TruValue hardware store.

Thank you! I have seen pictures of original model 15 pistol pack cases and the outside looks just the same only in black instead of brown. I'm just not sure if the foam is correct. The fabric is long gone. So, were the early ones in black cases? Yeah, I figure the screw might be difficult, but that's half the fun! I figured this was a complete mixmaster, but I've always wanted one so I bought it. Overpaid, I'm sure, but it was worth it to me. Not sure if I want to restore the case or leave it as is. Maybe use that as an excuse to buy an actual original pack. Like I need an excuse!

Yes, that is a factory case .. I've got a couple. There was no fabric, they only came with the egg crate foam. As Ole Dog said, they also only came with the three BA's. Leave it as is, in original condition.

Thank you! Awesome info! I know a little bit about the other type of Wesson, but I'm just getting started with DW. Cool. I'm glad I don't have to recover the foam!
