Couple questions for you guys
Questions
1. What year was it made
2. Is it factory nickel
3. If it was nickeled after market does that ruin the value of the gun
4. Is it even possible to nickel a blued gun
5. Was it stainless and polished to look Nickel
6. Model 15-2 ?
Serial number is 50288

First of all, Welcome to DWF
Pictures are important, and identifying the Model is important as well. With that S/N it is not stainless high polish, it is possibly factory nickel, a blued gun can be nickeled , I did it and it's my perfect gun.
No comment on the value.
If it has adjustable rear sights and a straight (not footed/porkchop) shroud, it is a 15-2 and factory nickel was possible then, but no way to prove it.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome, Woody. One thing that might indicate weather is't factory nickel is if the trigger and hammer are plated as well. My model 14, which I believe is factory nickel has a black trigger and hammer. I think most people if they were to have a gun plated they would include the trigger and hammer...maybe. Let me qualify, I am not one of the experts on the forum but there are many and they are very helpful. See if you can post a good picture or two and that will explain a lot. Factory or not there are not a lot of nickel Dans around. You can put great personal value on it in that respect. Welcome again!

Welcome to the forum woody. Pictures are pretty simple. Try this link:

Hi Woody and welcome to the forum. I think that is a fine looking gun. I do not believe it is factory nickle. The cylinder latch is not plated which leads me to believe it is an aftermarket job. It is a very early 15-2 ,probably from late 1974 or early 1975. It has a pinned front sight with no red ramp. The hammer spur was a little shorter than latter guns. When archeologists find the gun in several thousand years it will be priceless. In the meantime it is probably worth what you paid for it. Enjoy.

I agree with Ole Dog since the cyl latch is not nickeled I would guess it is not a factory nickel job. Really no way to know for sure. More importantly how do you like it and how does it shoot?

I agree that it is likely not factory nickel. Several years ago I had a 15-2 refinished in nickel, it ended up looking very similar to yours, although I did have the latch done in nickel.
If you have never owned a nickel gun before, be aware that strong bore cleaners (anything intended to remove copper) can damage the nickel finish. The nickel was probably applied over a copper base coat, and if a bore cleaner intended to remove copper gets under the nickel, it may start peeling your nickel off the gun.
