A nickel plated SuperMag is not a cataloged item in any of the historical documentations. While it certainly could be a "factory special", without any verifiable evidence if it being such I would conclude that it is an aftermarket plating that someone applied to it. Regardless of where the plating came from, I would value it for what it is, not not as something "special", "one of a kind", etc. unless there is some unique provenance behind it. With that being said, look for evidence of refinishing.

The variety of undocumented factory specials never ceases to amaze me.
There were probably a lot of specialty/one off/custom guns out of the various Dan Wesson entities, we will probably never know.
I have a 15-2 that I had refinished in bright nickel, my guess is that I could sell it somewhere for big$$$.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I had the work done through a local gun shop/gun smith. They did the tear down and prep, then turned the frame and shroud over to USFA here in Hartford for the finish. The shop then put everything back together, with new springs and some fitting of all the internals This was before the days of the Average Joe Tuneup.

It is amazing how folks like to customize guns as soon as they get them. I learned very quickly when I started exercising my second ammendment rights and then saw my first Dan, that when it comes to collecting, any "improvements" actually decrease value and reduce the number of interested buyers. Even a factory refinish diminishes value. In Steve's case, the gun is not originally rare and a nice nickel job could pay for itself. And it sure is pretty.

Actually, when I had mine done, I specifically left trigger, hammer, ejector/extractor etc, original. It was actually a fairly tired and worn 15-2 that I got very inexpensively at Cabela's.
