I have mentioned, not in the recent past, my own Model 11 in .357 Magnum. Since joining this forum I have picked up on a lot of data concerning the Dan Wesson line to include the history of the company. Most, if not all, of the members are well versed in knowledge on the various DW Models. In the past I made an inquiry on the 1970-71 time period of the NYPD-approved Model 11 for duty use. I was hoping that maybe one of the members had stumbled across some information about this "least-known" of the NYPD approved .38 sixguns. It was definitiely there, as has been validated by several reputable sources, including two former NYPD cops from that time period, who saw the .38 Model 11 at NYPD's Rodman's Range. Since joining this forum I have found out some good info concerning the Model 11, but not any concerning the NYPD Model 11. It most definitely has a history, I believe a very intersting history to all Dan Wesson enthusiasts as this was one of the two first DW Models that Mr. Dan Wesson initially brought out in 1970. He managed to have this first DW Model "approved-for-duty-use" by the largest police department in the world. There was a lot of hoops for Mr. Dan to have cleared "just" to have accomplished this approval alone!broken-computer

I do hope one day to hear/read the history of this particular model and the background to its introduction to the NYPD. Maybe even to see one would be nice. Someone, somewhere may come forward I hope! It is a history worth preserving and sharing with other interested DW students, such as I count ourselves here.

Dave I've been trying to think of a members name here, maybe someone else can help.

He lives up in North Ohio and was a gunsmith and repair center for DW and even

did some work with Dan back in the day. Maybe he could shed some light on your

question.

I just can't get this head of mine to remember what his DWF name was, any help

from the forum ? ?

I know who you mean, I can't come up with his screen name either. I might have his email on my other computer, I'll check. He worked in a shop that did warranty work for DW and had spent time in the Monson plant.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
