That is a factory mark designating a "blem" gun. It means that their Quality Control found something wrong, often just a mark in the finish that caused them to sell the gun cheaper than MSRP. There is probably nothing wrong with the functioning of the gun or they would not have sold it.

Yep, nothing wrong with function-ability just a cosmetic flaw, usually they are not all that noticeable. On the 1911's there used to be a pic of the gun with the area of the blem circled that came with the gun. And even then it is hard to see them on the pistol sometimes!!!
