I'll post pics as soon as I find the moving box with my camera in it. Meanwhile, I went into a local sporting goods and gun store and was surprised to see a 715-VH8 for sale. Original box with matching serial number, DW tool (very clean with yellow covers), spacer gauge, after market fiber optic front sight, checkered wood grip with DW logo and Hogue rubber grip. Despite the $825 price tag and refusal to haggle, I couldn't help myself. Condition is excellent. Looks like it wasn't used much at all. Single action trigger couldn't be better. Lockup is very good.
First question is when was this gun manufactured? I've searched here and can't find the "Registry" some old posts refer to. My serial number is "S/0029xx", and it was made in Monson, MA. I did find a post with an original owner saying he bought his "005xxx" serial number gun in 1982. Does that mean this is even older?
Second, is it possible that the fiber optic front sight was a DW part? It fits the gun, and judging by the styrofoam box the sight was on the gun for a while sometime in the past. However, this sight is noticeably shorter than the blade sight with the red insert. The fiber optic rod is almost clear, so I'm guessing that it started out green and faded over time.
I promise I'll post pics!
P.S. Please don't yell at me about the price. I've been watching GunBroker for several months for a Model 15-2. Between the original box and the excellent condition, I couldn't resist buying a gun that I could examine closely and function check before buying. Unfortunately, sales tax offset and shipping cost savings but at least I didn't have to pay an FFL fee too.

Check HERE to get some idea of the year on your 715.
The fiber optic front sight is either a DW or EWK item, and would not have been original to the gun.
Enjoy your new "old" 715
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Post us up some
To me I would rather pay top dollar for a gun that I really like and want than to wait for a great deal that may never come along so I'd say you did fine. And there is a value to being able to buy locally and inspect it before committing to it.
