The following 44 mag is for sale as a "One of a Kind" due to the "13" stamped inside a circle on the frame where the cylinder closes. I was shooting my 10" 44 Mag at the range today to make sure it will be ready to put a big hurt on some PA whitetail this fall and noticed that my 44 also has a "13" inside a circle stamped on the frame. I guess it is not one of a kind...is it the way every 44 mag is stamped? The only other DW I have with a stamp inside the frame is my .357 Super Mag it is stamped ".40" inside a circle.

It refers to having been built on Friday the 13th.

I will need to look at my 44 when I am home tomorrow. Mine is a later Monson gun, so it may not be marked this way. Your .357SM is likely also a Monson gun. That was the first Super Mag & those frames were marked with 40, due to the longer frame.

Yes it is not stamped it is cast. I am now curious how many .44 mags were cast with this 13 on the frame. Mine has it the one on gun broker has it, I am guessing not uncommon, but I am now interested in what the 13 means. I know what the .40 means on my Super Mag.

I saw that and thought, "there is no end to the BA by sellers on ebay or Gunbroker." I didn't even bother looking at mine. The sad truth is that the word "rare" in the ad seems to work. I have to be suspicious also that the gun was up to 1000 and failed to meet reserve. That was at least 300 over what it is worth. Lots of sellers on ebay and Gunbroker have proxy accounts bidding up the items hoping to get a sucker in a bidding war.

This was listed on Armslist a month ago and came up here as well. I contacted the seller and after his response, advised him that he was mistaken regarding the "one of a kind" and it's rareness, but it's still a nice revolver. I guess he didn't believe me.

Cast-in markings such as this usually denote some type of lot identification, date, mold number., etc. that can provide some traceability to the product.
