Heard that Elgin Gates' wife lettered these boxes.  They came with a nasty old 445. =:-)  My first Palmer gun.

Wow that is really neat. I have a Palmer 445 SM that I really like. I wish I had the box for it. Thanks for sharing. Here is mine.

I have a Monson IHMSA 445. It came in the simple white sleeved box.

I have a few and they all came in the white foam box with cardboard sleeve also.

I wish I had been shooting during the Elgin gates days of IHMSA.  Members could get great guns at better prices. It was all about promoting the sport back then.

Cool box.  I have never seen one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but... the red box is just for ammo correct?  The gun itself came in the standard white box...

I've been corresponding with Randy Gates recently about some IHMSA stuff and I invited him to drop in here and join us in our discussions.  I think it would be great to have him on board.  He could add a great deal of knowledge about the IHMSA heyday as well as great personal inside info on guns, the cartridges and of course, the man behind the supermags.  From what little I've read about his father, Elgin Gates, he was a very colorful individual to say the least.  I would love to hear whatever personal stories Randy would care to share.  He and Eric can fill in the vast gaps in our knowledge base.  I hope he stops by and says hello.

It would be great to have Randy drop in.  I recently bought the gun digest metallic silhouette 2nd edition book.  Great look at how Elgin built the sport.  He also talks about experiences in his life and how they were used for IHMSA.  People he had in his life, wildcat cartridges he developed,  etc.

Another guy to track down would be David Bradshaw.  I just got 'shooting steel'.  This book came out before the above mentioned book.  The amount of testing he did with DW's is amazing.  He was and still is an excellent shot.  I've seen a few of his posts on the single action forum.

If Randy were to comment I am sure he would also mention Bob Talbot, he apparently had much to do with the development of many guns we all enjoy now.  I have never been able to track him down.
