Hey guys, You wouldnt believe it but when i installed a new cylinder catch in my dan wesson 715fb i over screwed the small screw that retains the catch and it has almost disappeared into the craine thus now the catch does not move up and down. I tried to back it out but i think the bit  on the end of the small screw that the driver bit goes into is stripped.  Argg!, i should have been paying closer attention to what i was doing. Any idea how i can back the screw out or what I could do if I cant?20160803_000644.jpgImage Enlarger

I'm not sure that you will find an ez-out that small. You might try taking that part to a jeweler who has a watch repairman (repair person?) in house.

I will tell you that I once owned a 14-2 that had a roll pin in place of the screw. The gun had been refinished and I always figured the person who did the teardown/refinish/reassembly lost or stripped that screw and went with a roll pin. It worked just fine

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The Front Sight Retaining Screw is the same part as the Trigger Stop Screw. The Shroud Locating Pin is the same as the Extractor Bushing Pin.

Thanks for the info. So the screw for the retainment of the latch is an exclusive part? Different from the front sight screw?

Correct. It is $4.95 and "In Stock" at the Dan Wesson factory in Norwich .. I suggest you contact Shawn in Spare Parts at 607-336-1174 extension #21.  There is a flat-rate $9 shipping fee, so you may want to stock up on any other parts you want at the same time.

+1 on getting others to defray the shipping. It is always good to have an extra crane lock, rear sight roll pin, and firing pin roll pin. You may want to check with Snake- eye and save shipping and more.

You should be able to remove it by using a torx bit and a little downward force applied while twisting. Or file down a slightly larger allen wrench. I have used both methods on friends DW  guns that needed "special " attention to disassemble.

I had a 22 that had a roll pin on the latch instead of screw ?

Good Luck

Early models started with roll pins. They show up in the parts diagrams.

Send me a PM with your mailing address written exactly as it should look on the envelope. Please attach a picture of the screw you removed. Mine are blue. If I have it you will get it.

Can anyone tell me what the size and thread pitch of the Latch Retaining Screw is? Is it a #2-56?

A New Members post  would be nice.

I just found mine to be a 4-40 but I could only find machine screws and that was tough too and they are SS.
