Got my first dan wesson (and first revolver at that). Its a model 11 .357 magnum revolver. From what I have read so far it's an older model (which is a good thing as the products from the first factory had better quality control?). But I also gather it uses a different system to index the barrel shroud to the frame than most dan wessons. Where would I be able to find more barrels/shrouds for this gun (or is it a get lucky at gun shows kind of thing) and is it possible to get new barrels/shrouds for it?

Welcome to DWF. The Model 11 would be a fixed rear sight revolver, the shroud will be the the "porkchop" type. These shrouds are available most of the time on Gun Broker, but they are less common that the later straight shrouds. You may find New Old Stock on these, but there is no new or current manufacture of porkchop shrouds.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
