Hey ho to all my wonderful friends here in DW land!!!
Time for posting!!!!
So ( hoping the picture stuff still works) I drove 800 miles in one day (there and back to PURCHASE) a DW 15-2 to replace my beloved and much missed 15-2. My original gun was a 15-2V ( not heavy) pack bought in 1986... the replacement is a 15-2H pack ( not vented) and is only about 10000 older than my own.
Where my gun had about 100k rounds through it.. this safe queen (soon to be remedied) probably has less than 2k. Not only that but the owner, had sent it back to DW ( years ago) to correct the firing pin, and they tuned it up while they had it. the action is pure butter. I took the side plate off and can see the polishing that was done.
While by no means a "collector" to match those here still a picture of two packs (one being not the orignal pack gun by my wifes)
Just for fun:
So I figure if the two guns are so close to age... I wonder how the barrel stamps came out:
Remember.. the vent came with the newer gun, and the heavy with the "older" gun.. by SN. Of course in reality, DW probably churned out many BA, and then assembled packs from inventory... such that BA's are not sure to have guns for the same exact age.. what do you think?
BA goodness......
And in the "well I knew that but never had it dept":
So yup.. the base of the V and H shrouds are different. Note that my 6" FB also has that slant cut edge. Funny how they decided to do that.

in that order.

Nice Pack, the H shroud is the one least often seen in captivity, and a complete Pack in H is pretty special.
Over the years I have seen some Packs where the "2" shroud is undercut like that, and I've wondered if some did not get sent out with that shroud instead of the full underlug. IDK, but maybe some got sold this way just to get them out the door.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Good Lord!
With all the "1"s and "!!!'s" in this thread title, I thought Pinetor had been flooded out & all his DW's were washed downstream somewhere in the mighty Mississippi! LOL!! Now, I have a feeling that there may be some involved in this joyously unrestrained dual PP thread. haha!
Thanks for the Pine, that's a sweet find! And if your wife is playing "mine is better than yours" where DW PP's are concerned, she's one cool lady!!

The difference between those shrouds is the vented one is not a vented-heavy. If you look at any PP that has vented (only) shrouds, the front of the 2.5 always has that little chamfer. However, a PP with heavy shrouds, whether vented or not, will have the straight, full length underlug. It's a matter of consistency established by someone as anal as I am. It's kind of like correctly referring to a BA as a "VH8", rather than the the incorrect "8VH".
Like my father always said, "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right."
