Dan-Wesson-pack.PNGImage Enlarger

Hi Everyone,

I may have an opportunity to buy a Dan with 3 barrels and tools, not sure if it a "pistol pack" or just a collection of parts. I'm unfamiliar with these and looking for some advice please. The gun looks to be in ok condition but is there anything specific I should looks for in regard to wear areas, thread issues etc. Should the barrels have matching numbers if they came from the pistol pack ?

These are pretty rare in Australia and I have always wanted to own a pistol pack so I'm keen to get as much information as I can. The gun is located 1000klms away and with COVID restrictions I am not able to see it before I paid for it so it could be a big risk and a waste of money if it is not as advertised so I'd like to have some intelligent questions ready to ask the seller when we speak. I should be able to pick the gun up for less than $USD800 so the price looks to be fine.

I have attached a pic of the gun which notes it's serial number so any feedback on build date, location et  would be fantastic please.

Thanks in Advance

Mike

It's difficult to tell the fine details from a photo but it appears to be in nice condition and would be a good buy at $800.  I would ask about the history of the gun if they know it, # of rounds fired, condition - nicks, dings, scratches, rust, and if it is timed correctly (cylinder locks into place before the hammer reaches fully locked position.  They listed it as "good" condition - so ask them what are the detractors that knock it down from Perfect Condition.  The scale is New, Perfect (Like New), Excellent, Very Good, Good, and Fair), so this one is rated quite far down the list.  If all these are in check you've got a nice buy for $800.

Thanks for the reply Dakota Jack, I am trying to contact the person selling it to ask some questions. If it is as good as it says (always questionable) I'll go ahead and buy it, worst case I may need to re blue and have a gunsmith take a look and check everything but at the buy price it would be a good investment.

Thanks Again

Mike

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Barrels and shrouds do not have matching numbers. They are fungible. I see no factory case. It is a frame, 3 barrel assemblies and a tool. On my phone they look in nice shape. The mottling is likely gun oil. Pictures can't tell if there are mechanical issues though. In the US we can easily get parts. I understand that in Australia it is not easy, but for the great price I would take a chance.

For a PACK: you're short a 2" barrel assembly (VH), the case, a belt buckle, an extra grip?, paper work, and a few other details.

I like DWs and from the listed prices I've seen in this area, $800 would be a very good price IF the gun was in acceptable (to you) condition.  It has to function to be acceptable! {or you need a good plan to get it fixed}

Hi Everyone,

Sadly this DW was snapped up whilst I was speaking with the owner on the phone !!! In some ways I regret not snapping it up and taking a chance but given parts are hard to source and import into Australia and I could not see the gun up close to check bores, timing etc I am not too disappointed (well that's what I keep telling myself). Thanks so much for the input and feedback, looks like I'll just have to continue to keep my eye out for another.

Take Care

Mike
