Well the Ebay mini Pac went for more than I wanted to spendCry... But I started on the next project.  I found this old MTM pistol case at the flea market for $7, and there was another one there just like it, but in Mini Pac sizeLaugh... I got it for $7 also.  I'll build the mini for my DW 22.  But I digress... Here is the full size MTM case.

The foam is actually 2 layers to get it to the proper height.  Take it easy on me with the pink and blue foamLaugh... I get all my foam at yard sales because it is stupid expensive in the fabric stores.

I cut the parts a little oversize due to the firmness of the top layer of foam I use.  The grip in the pics looks like there is a lot of room around it.  I actually use a cutout that is a combination of a DW Target grip and a Large Pachmayr grip; this gives me the option of storing any grip in the case.

It turns out I can't get the Green fabric I want until around Christmas...Cry, so I may have to make another red one for the moment.  I'm considering doing a black liner for a 715 PP..any thoughts?

Black...............yeah, black would work,Shoot. That SS would look good on black. I may do one myself. Hey Shoot, I am coming out to Littleton in October to visit my daughter & son-in-law. Maybe we could hook up? I'm planning on taking one of my DWs for an airplane ride. My .44 with the 8VHSC barrel has been asking to go. Let me know.

That looks really good & I like that case style, too.Laugh

I think black would look pretty good with a stainless Pac. here's a pic I swiped from some auction ad a while back…it's dark brown, but you can get the general idea.Wink

Very nice work guys!  I'm using a MTM case for my pac with just plain old dimmpled foam.  After seeing this thread I see a trip to the fabric store is in order.

cases have been around for awhile.

I would love to take credit but no, I did not make this one.  I found this with an Italian replica in, dirt cheap, so I bought just for the case.  I think it may be from the late forties or early fifties.  It has been made to look old but the metal work is new production if you look at the inside under the foam.  The foam looks like what you see in forties to fifties vintage automobiles and showing it's age.

Here is what I want to put in it.  I need to cut new foam and get new fabric, but hate to loose the patina of the old fabric.

I guess my obsession with cap and ball revolvers has been outed.

Shootist, thanks for the details on how you use the foam to build your own PP. Looks like the minipac on ebay went too high for either of us.

The fabric you use in your PPs looks great - what type of fabric is it, and how are you attaching it to the case / foam or wherever?

Reckon I'll have to build my own - no PPs here in Aussie, and I don't reckon any of you DWers in US will be sending me one for Christmas.........

I use what is called “stretch velvet”.  They use it to make little girls Christmas dresses.  I like it because it actually stretches a little and leaves no wrinkles.  I just wrap the fabric over the top of the foam and use pins in the back to hold it in place–nothing fancy.  It runs $10 a yard normal price.  Right now they have black and red in stock.  I can ship it to you if needed.

I picked this case up today for $25… a little more than I usually spend but this one is really heavy duty.  And it looks kind of cool also.  This case will be a royal pain to finish--it has rounded corners and bevels from every angle...a foam cutting nightmare.

The dial locks on the front are interesting.Smile I've got a case similar to that, sort of a Zero Haliburton copy, but it's in excellent shape & I'm not sure if I want to gut it.lol2 I used it to get the gun to the right height in this pic set…

SHOOT- That new case just screams for a Navy blue cloth and a 744 4/6/8/10 set, and it's big enough to do it in with plenty of space. Set the combo to "744" ?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
