HarleySftl the 22 wrench did it come with a Monson or Palmer ? The 357 max tool is of coarse 1983 on there is also one in the same colors for the 44 mag.
hugelk I would say both the 44 and 357 max were after 1983 were they Monson stamped or Palmer ? Also what year are the 32's and what color caps do they have ? Please post pics of the 32 wrenches.
zoommb I could see the 715 having that color wrench , the 744 do you know its year and can you post a pic of it's wrench ? Also what year is your 741 ?
The 357 wrench is then the second wrench with the tip on the back normally only on large frame wrenches that came with a small frame gun and the 5th type now for 357's in the plastic wrenches what was it that it came with a 15-2 or 715 ? and do you know the year ? we know those 2 wrenches were used between 83 and 91 for sure.
Weasel guys, you are going to drive yourself crazy. One day when I fondle my guns I will check out the 32 mag, 45 colt, and Supermag tools I have.
Zoommb, I believe but am not sure that the 44 mag tool is used on the 45 colt. I will verify next time I am pulling stuff out of the safe. Pretty sure the 44 doornob were used on the Rowland. I seem to remember the epiphany I had when I discovered that. I may just have an extra 44 doornob. I would trade it for a 10" SS BA. Haha, just kidding. I did enter up rueing selling that. Love the 10 inch barrels now.

OK, I bought the 744 new in 1985. As I said, I did not buy the 741 new, but it was a complete PP when I bought it. Judging from the serial number history, my best guess for the year of the 741 is 1985 also.
Here's a pic of the wrench for the 744:

Thanks Ron. I've been using my 744 wrench on my 745. The 7460 came with it's own tool, it's neither plastic nor a doorknob. The 44 tool is a little loose in the 45; maybe I'll try Eric for another piece ( I can't remember the proper name for it) for my large-frame tool.
The more I think about it, I think I want a plastic tool for the 745 since it's a Monson gun.

I will add an opinion on this, as a long time DWF Member and DW owner.
It is very unlikely that anyone will ever figure out what color barrel tool with came with what gun in what year
By all means, continue the discussion as you wish, the reality is, we will just never know.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thank you zoommb for the pic so your would be proper for a 85 44mag and the blue with large black cap and 2 small yellows came with a 94 ,my blue with large blue cap and small brown and yellow is from 81 that's a start . Ole Dog I won't go nuts over it I can just be a meticulous sob when I'm researching something and will spend years if need be searching for the answer. It would be nice if someone could look up the answer to which patch or buckle they need to complete their pistol pack so they dont end up with a 79 buckle and a 76-80 patch with there 77 gun or like I did a 76-80 patch and a 77-80 buckle with my 83 gun , so I will keep tracking pistol pack pics ads magazine articles and posts until I have if not a totally accurate at least a close to accurate list of what to look for .Tools ,buckles , patches and that will still leave hats , bags and soft cases .Keep up with the pics guys and any knowledge of these items that you can lend.

Damn weasel, you must have copious amounts of spare and idle time on your hands. I could only wish for such leisure to be able to undertake such a project!!
Not really a lot of extra time , just here and there and over however long it takes , I once spent time over about a month to breakdown the differences between distributors for jeeps for a forum I'm on it is a sticky there . I may not ever get this all done here but I'm going to try.

Wait...do you mean general parts distributors, or the manufacturers of the dizzy's (ignition distributors) themselves?
Because Ford, GM & Chrysler all had a hand in that pie at some point.
Yes distributors like that jeep used one type with a built in cps till 93 but it was on my 94 , I replaced mine with a newer style with removable cps . I made a post of it on a forum listing part numbers and years for the dist , cap & cps with pics . So others new what to buy and look for and so they knew it could be done.
The original tool was the 12 sided wrench. When they put the nut inside the barrel they included the 5 sided insert. Shortly after the changed to a 5 sided wrench and the nut. The gauge is not part of it. A set of automotive feeler gauges actually works better. You can use 004 or 005.

Anyone know what the porkchop tool with the barrel gauge on it came with ?
That is the wrench & gauge that came with one of my Model 12's, for use with the external barrel nut. The Model 11 would have also had the same tool. As Ole Dog stated, when they moved the nut flush with the shroud (Model 14 & 15), they included an "adapter" to use with the existing early style wrench. The adapter unfortunately, was fairly clumsy to use & probably contributed to stripping out it's fair share of barrel nuts.
That one is very uncommon. It may have been the very first one. It has a stylized DW on one side. The finish on some early tools looks Parkerized and others just blued. The Parkerized I think came first. Charger Fan is correct about the early wrench being difficult. The later plastic ones are fragile. The problem with both is mostly caused by over tightening the nut. The early tool would slip and the plastic tool would strip. Firm is good enough.
Ok I have edited my original post to include steel wrenches and I don't care if it was from a gun you bought new or not , tell me what it came with , most people who bought new would probably not have replaced their wrenches with another type any way so if you bought used there is a good chance it is the original tool , I can sort out the odd ones later and know what should be with it by the responses , maybe this way I can get more responses.
