My father has asked me to do some research into the Dan Wesson he bought off of a friend several years ago.  The information gathered was collected over the phone today, so as far as looking at the pistol myself, I haven't seen or shot it in a while.

I have read the thread for identifying revolvers and tend to think it may be a model 15, as it is a .357 with the adjustable rear sight.  It has a 3.5"-4" barrel.  There are no real "model" markings on it, but it has a serial number of 350001.  The other markings include "Dan Wesson .357 Magnum CTG."  The grip is only about 3", and he would like to get a longer grip, but has ran into troubles testing out (and returning) various grips that he was told would fit.  The trouble he ran into was the length of the handle part of the frame (don't know the technical name for it) as it was too short to accept a modern aftermarket grip.  I will be posting pics  soon in the appropriate thread, after my father takes pictures and e-mails them to me.

Any words of wisdom that could be given would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

First of all-Welcome to the Forum. This is a pretty good place to get the info you are looking for. I think the technical term you are looking for on the part of the frame extending into the grip is the "tang". Is the problem with the grip, or the length of the screw that holds the grip in place? I think I have seen reference  to different lengths of screws to hold the grip in place, and aftermarket grips may have something to do with that. Factory original wood grips are almost always available on e-bay, and I think different length grip screws are as well. There is also a "Grips" topic here to help you identify different DW grips.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Just post the pictures right here in this thread. You know what they say a picture is worth 1000 words especially with Dan Wesson's.

Where was the gun made Monson or Palmer that tells alot and can narrow down the years by manufacture.

If it was made in Monson it's a model 15-2.  I have SN 3078XX that was made in 1980 or later.

They made different models at Monson…I have a 744 that is Monson made…and I think the original 15 was made at Monson as well.

True, I thought he said it was blued but I guess not.  By the SN if it is a model 15 it would be the -2.

Looks like you have a 15-2 with a 4" vented barrel.  I would suggest looking on eBay for some grips.  You want to make sure you get some for the Dan Wesson Small Frame Revolver.  They will have the square hole instead of round.

Good Luck and welcome to the forum!

Hogue also makes rubber and wood grips that will work.

Pachmayr Presentation Grips are awesome and fairly easy to find...Pachmayr Grippers are even better (IMHO), but are harder to find and go for a good bit on Ebay.

You can find the Dan Wesson Wood Grips pretty steadily.
