MyFather purchased this many years ago... probably 1991 or so. All i know is he bought it at a gun show for home protection and it really recoils when I fire it. I have recently inherited it and am trying to figure out exactly what I have here. I have been doing a lot of reading on here about the pistol packs and all. I would really think it to be pretty cool to have the ability to change out the barrels and make this a smaller calibur pistol. Any and all help is appreciated.
yeah... how do i upload photos on here?

Welcome to DWF, two pretty easy questions to help with. Taken out of order, to post photos, I find this to be the easiest solution:
https://www.danwessonforum.com/?page_id=193
When you post those photos, please resize to 800x600 or so, they still display well without over running page margins.
A Dan Wesson .44 Magnum will either be a Model 44 (blue) or a Model 744 (stainless). The barrel configuration will be listed by length (4/6/8 etc) and shroud style (V/VH) as a number and letter(s). So a 6" Vented Heavy Underlug Stainless would be a 744 6VH.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Wellcome to the forum! I just want to clear up why shoot asked for a sales reciept, with Dan Wessons going out of business then starting back up the ATF collected all production records so that left historical production dates up in the air for those of us that are collectors. So anytime we have a new member usually someone will ask if they have papers or reciepts. this will add to the forums database. Good luck with your new treasure and enjoy the forum!

yeah i thought maybe he was being a little smart asking for a reciept. That makes sense tho. Another question, What benifit is there to putting on a shorter barrel? Would that not cause a loss in accuracy? Thanks.
Welcome!
A gun is accurate given all things are correct. A longer barrel aids the shooter in being more accurate ( for the most part). I can shoot just as well ( accurate) with my 6" barrel as my 8" up to 10 yards. After that, the 8" barrel helps me be more accurate.
Given all that above... if I only intended to shoot say in a home defense situation of 5 yards.. any barrel is going to be long enough. But a shorter barrel would be easier to move about and conceal . Pulling a gun with an 8" barrel out of my night stand would take me a minute!
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

Sorry, should have explained my reasoning ... Sometimes I forget to explain all the details.

Good questions, I don't think we have any specific info on general maintainence and cleaning of Dan Wesson revolvers. Many resources are available on the Web for this, you could start there,

I'm going to start a new Topic here
