Hey guys, I've got a model 14 or 14-1 (it's blued with fixed sights porkchop barrel) and extraction is kind of rough & hard even with light .38 special loads, after trying to clean the cylinders with a nylon bore brush I was wondering if I could polish the cylinder bores to ease extraction. My method of approach was to use mother's mag wheel polish & a .357 bore mop and run it through a hand drill to polish each of the individual bores  in the cylinder.

Do you guys think this method is too extreme or even stupid, if so can you reccommend me some other techniques? I don't care about the finish inside the bores.

Mother's is an expensive way to polish something.  Any good metal polishing compound should work.  Remember magnesium (actually aluminum in a wheel) is a lot softer than your steel cylinder.

I think I would try a bronze bore brush first, though.

So if you try to pull one shell out at a time, are they stiff that way? Or is it the ejection rod that's acting bound up?

the cylinder appears to have light rust. I think maybe a phosphor bronze brush may remove it

Charger Fan- I got it the cylinder wasn't the problem. the extractor appears to be be bent by just a few degrees- I don't know how this happened. I strightened it the best i could and the cases seem to come out much easier. The cylinder bores I'm still gonna tackle.

Ballistol and a hoppes bronze bore brush did the trick. Thanks for your guys help- oiled up the extractor rod and she seems to extract fine. Not bad for a gun that been in a sock for 13 years.

Old DW Model 14 - 13 years in a sock - free advice, a keen eye and some oil - resurrected like the proverbial Phoenix - priceless!

Nice work Yung Josh. Cool
