I picked this up on Smith-Wesson Forum, with some interesting options for high polishing stainless steel. I would always take this kind of advice with a grain of salt, and go slowly.

Might be interested in putting a high polish on the flat sides on the slide on my Pointman.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Man, some of those opinions seem to run the gamut.Confused And that is the first time I've heard of using a chamois for anything other than drying a car.

Sandpaper?? What are you...CRAZY!Surprised (mental note; don't buy a used gun from that guy)

I'll buy into the jewler's rouge idea though & a dremel when used in moderation could be a good thing on curved surfaces. The only Flitz stuff I'm familar with is a non-abrasive liquid, maybe they make some abrasive paste? You'd need something with some slight abrasive in it to polish stainless.

That's a pretty interesting thread.  The jewelers rouge (first time I've heard of it) sounds like the way to go.  Might think about some shine on my CBOB sides.

Wet 1500 grit would be like polishing with a baby's butt...back in the day we used to sand laquer with 600 wet - but I would not be comfortable with a dremel.

I agree that the jewelers rouge sounded the way I would try if I was going to do it.  I am always leary of starting a project like that then fearing I get tired of it half way through.  The 15-hour thing sounded terrible.  Thanks for the thread.

All I have ever used is Mothers Wheel polish and I have some very nice shinned S&W's and DW's. and I use good auto paste wax on my blued guns. I use a battery operated tooth brush to polish the SS and just the finger in a cloth on the blued guns.

That reminds me I have a Marlin 1894C that needs some wax and all my Ruger Mk's (4 little 22lr) needs waxing also. Well I know what I will be doing tomorrow.

Here's an SS cleaner preservative that I saw reviewed in Hemmings Muscle Machines that they raved about

http://www.americancosmeticssuperpolish.com/home

I'm going to order some, based on their results on plated and stainless parts on 40 year old bumpers, trim mouldings, etc. Not a polish so much as a cleaner/sealer type product.
