Some of my questions I may very well answer myself if I had my Revolver in hand.  Unfortunately living in NewYorkistan I was unable to take possession of my just purchased High Standard Sentinel Mark 2 before departing to spend the winter in Florida,  It has the original 4 inch ( as I understand actually 3.75 inch ) barrel.  I would like to get it equipped with some type of 2.5 inch BA.  So I have some questions to be sure I make the right decision should the opportunity come available for purchasing what I need.

Will an external barrel nut Pork chop shroud work for me?  Like a Model 11.   Seems that there must be some sort of internal step machined inside an internal nut shroud for the nut to seat upon.  Not having one in my hands I cannot confirm this.  If this is correct I must conclude that the external nut shroud will NOT work for me.  Unless of course I am willing to go to an external nut system.  Am I correct in my assumption that an external nut shroud will NOT work with an internal nut?

As I see it,  following would be a list of my options in order of preference.  If I am incorrect could someone please set me straight.

1) original 2,5 inch High Standard pork chop BA for a model Mark 2 ( probably not going to happen )

2) 2.5 inch Pork chop BA from a DW M14-1 ( also probably not going to happen )

3) 2.5 inch Non pork chop BA from a DW M14 used with an EWK adapter  ( no sight change needed )

4) 2.5 inch Non Pork chop BA from a DW M15 used with the EWK adapter  AND  EWK front sight change to compensate for the fixed sights of the Mark 2

5) EWK BA used with the EWK adapter and the EWK sight change

I did not include the High Standard Mark 3  BA as I do not know if there is an available sight change to make it work with the fixed rear sight of the Mark 2.  Additionally the above sequence assumes that an external barrel nut shroud will not work with an internal barrel nut.  Thus I listed no external barrel nut shrouds as an option.

Also, barrel lengths are not a paramount issue as I can get barrels from EWK and I like the 1:12 twist rate as well.

So, Have I missed any options or made incorrect assumptions?

Thanks for any and all input.

Yes, you can use an external nut shroud. You will need a 2.5" barrel to go with it.

Seems that there must be some sort of internal step machined inside an internal nut shroud for the nut to seat upon.

Yes, there is.

Am I correct in my assumption that an external nut shroud will NOT work with an internal nut?

You can use an internal nut on an external shroud, yes.

1) original 2,5 inch High Standard pork chop BA for a model Mark 2 ( probably not going to happen )

I agree, this will be near impossible.

2) 2.5 inch Pork chop BA from a DW M14-1 ( also probably not going to happen )

Actually, this may not be impossible. Look on Ebay, along with all the gun auction sites, you may be able to find one.

3) 2.5 inch Non pork chop BA from a DW M14 used with an EWK adapter  ( no sight change needed )

Yes, this direction will be the simplest way for you to obtain a 2.5 BA. Here is an Ebay ad for that very thing. ---> LINK <---

Thanks Charger Fan,  Can you elaborate some on how the internal nut will tighten down on a SHROUD designed to be used with the external nut?  I understand the need for a shorter barrel.  Is there a step inside an external nut SHROUD for the internal nut to tighten against?   Am I over thinking something?

You aren't over thinking it. The shroud has a "counter sunk" hole drilled a quarter inch deep in the shroud, there is a step at the bottom of that larger hole where it meets the smaller hole that houses the barrel. The nut tightens against that step.

With an earlier exposed nut shroud, it's simply one straight hole all the way through. The end of the shroud is flat, and the nut merely tightens against the flat snout of the shroud, leaving the nut exposed.

The internal & external nuts are both the same thread size, so you can use a current 15-2 style nut on the early guns...they just won't look "correct".

Hope that helps.smile

Well, sort of helps.  But, if I want the internal nut appearance I cannot use a SHROUD that is designed for the external nut.  This is because the external nut SHROUD does not have that step machined inside the SHROUD for the internal nut to seat on.  In short, a SHROUD fo a model 11 with external nut must be used with the external nut and cannot have the flush look of the internal nut.

I am glad the fellows gave you so much info. I will just add that Seth Wesson sells exterior nuts of CNC machine make. They will work with a Dan Wesson shroud and a 21/2"barrel. If you find a real gunsmith, he would be able to bore the end of a model 11 shroud to accommodate the interior nut. Lastly, if you are wintering in my part of Fl. I may be able to fix you up. It is 2:30am and lights out but in the morning I will check. Of course I am talking about a DW shroud not a HS.

I would be very happy to find a DW pork chop SHROUD in 2.5 inch. I am in the Ormond Beach area.  However, we are also planning on doing some overnight trips to other areas of the State while we are here. I.e. Will be on the west coast around Christmas.  Other trips are doable as well.  Thanks for jumping in.                                                                                                                    Edit:  Think I saw a post referencing an experienced pistolsmith here in Florida just recently.  I think it was the Ocala area.

Just when I think I have it figured out a new twist arrives.I located a Pork Chop internal nut SHROUD.  However it is advertised as 3 1/8 inch.  I don't think there was such an animal.  I am guessing it is the same as the 4 inch ( 3 3/4 ) I have on the revolver at present.  No need to buy another just like the one I already have. .Also wonder if anyone can tell me, can the pinned front sights be changed.  I am Sure the pin can be driven out, but are different height sights available for the pinned front sights?  This would allow a pinned sight on a PC SHROUD to be used on a M14 or M15.  Doable?

Yes the pinned sight can be removed but you would be better served to get the right shroud. The 3 1/8" shroud is the same as the 3 3/4" barrel assembly. I just checked and I have a model 11 shroud in Brite blue, very unusual and a model 15, also in Brite blue. Your MK II is probably satin. It would be possible to swap front sights on mine. Ie; put the short sight in the model 15 shroud. I may do that anyway. I live in Ocala,  just a stone's throw from you. I also go to Deland frequently. PM me your contact info if I can help.
