Hello,
I picked up a ported barrel for my 744 off eBay and have a question about the ports in the barrel aligning with the ports in the shroud. The ports in the new barrel are too far forward to match up directly. Is this barrel made for some other shroud? Pictures below of shroud, ported barrel and original barrel.

I'll check the alignment here when I have a minute. However, I believe the consensus of most here is that the ported barrels should be aligned with the recycle bin! They have a tendency of make a mess in between the nut, shroud and barrel. I'll check it here though and post back.
*EDIT* .....Only took me a second.....same alignment here.

Yes correct alignment. Most guys don't like the power control barrels due to the mess it makes and it is not uncommon to see a shroud seized if the owner is slack on keeping it clean. If you choose to give it a spin just be sure to used jacketed bullets and clean regularly. I hear a 12 gauge brush in a drill works well for cleaning the shroud.

Thanks, I would have thought the barrel ports would have lined up with the shroud ports so spent gasses could exit directly out the top. So what these actually do is use the space inside the shroud like an expansion chamber and the ports in the shroud are the escape valves. I can see why I've seen some for sale that are very dirty and discolored.

I agree with Harley and lbruce, a good idea in theory but poorly executed in reality. The later compensated barrel assemblies work great, but those PC tubes are a good way to create a seized shroud. Put it in a drawer and shoot the standard tube. Muzzle climb on 44 mag is over blown in my opinion. My 100 lb daughter can shoot full house 44 mags all day long with no problems.
