I was fortunite to aquire a DW 744 and I love the gun. It came with a ported 6" shroud and an unported barrel. Got a ported barrel and put it on, expecting barrel port holes to line up with shroud port cuts. Not so!
Question is, in order for the porting to properly work, do barrel ports and shroud ports have to line up? My measurements don't show that it can.
Any feedback appreciated.

Congratulations on on your new purchase!
Upon firing, the gases will pass through the ports in the barrel, get into the gap between the barrel and shroud then escape out through the ports in the shroud. It is recommended that you shoot only jacketed or plated bullets through your ported barrel. Lead from non jacketed bullets can get caught in the gap between the barrel and shroud. Either way, plan on removing the barrel assembly after every range trip and thoroughly clean the inside of the shroud and exterior of the barrel. A stuck barrel can be a real PITA!
