I went out today and had a problem with my DW today.  She shot fine, however the cylinder latch kept coming loose and kept unlatching itself enough to stop the gun until I locked it back in.   At first it would do this on the 5th or 6th round, but then it seemed to start doing it on every round. So I put it away today.  I have no problem taking it to the local smith for a once over, but was curious as to what you guys thought.

Haven't had this problem on my other 715, so I'm thinking maybe there is a spring involved that holds the tab pushed up????

Thanks

Does the latch spring back up when depressed?  If not then the spring is broken.  If it springs up; check that it's latching by locking up and pressing on the opposite side of the cylinder to see if it releases  with only pressure on the cylinder.  If it does; make sure latch and pocket it fits in is very clean, if it still does it, check to see latch is going into the pocket.  I had a small metal burr on the edge of the pocket and used a dremmel with a diamond fine tip to grind a tiney amount at a time until it locked up tight.  Good luck and keep us informed.

Robert's got the answers.

Not much to add, but you can remove the little roll pin with a  long 1/16" punch (and some care) to check that spring.

It also could just be gunked up inside, so dismantling and cleaning is always a good "next step" in your diagnosis.

Keep us posted.

Not specific to DW's, but with any functional problem, on any pistol, for which the reason is not immediately evident:

Clean thoroughly

Disassemble everything you feel capable of reassembling

Clean thoroughly again and reassemble

Lube properly, not to be confused with lube heavily

Check out John Hunter's results with his DW in Australia as an example

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
