Great day today! This marked the first time I have shot-for-qualification with my Model 11. This yearly event required the law enforcement officers, all PD cops, to qualify with the service pistol. The PD's being the Smith & Wesson M&P .45 Pistol. There was another outside lawman there with us from a neighboring county Sheriff's Office who was shooting a Glock 22. This wasn't a contest for highest score but one for the mandated State requirements for certification. Even an elderly cop with 42+years under his belt has to attend in-service and shoot for qualification. I had been shooting my Model 11 (4"bbl. ser.# 1131)a lot lately as I wanted to qualify with it before I retired and I needed to practice to shoot the course-of-fire required. Not revolver friendly but close enough for me to get by with a 270 out of a possible 300 max. Maybe Mr. Dan Wesson was looking down smiling, as one of his first production models from 1970 (Model 11) made the qualification with room-to-spare today. I know some of the younger officers were whispering amongst themselves about my Model 11's looks, as some of them have never shot a revolver let alone a 4-inch Dan Wesson Model 11. I prayed earnestly, before the shooting took place as this was a group of advanced shooters, with three from the Swat Unit present. I really, really, really wanted to 'best' them fellas but it wasn't mean't to be. I must concede the age factor and it angers me greatly sometimes as marching time is robbing me of my shooting skills. I wished a 40-ish man was shooting today instead of the 60-ish man you see in the photos. Thank you my friends for allowing me to share this Dan Wesson story with you, as thanks to today's shooting, a Dan Wesson .357, a very early model, is in my duty holster, legal now, per State regs.

Many thanks for the response gents! Middlecalf, I managed to get some finely loaded .38 Match Loads (148-gr. WC) to shoot this match with and not my standard duty round. My only concession to a contest that I'm neck-deep in semi-auto pistol-packers, the standard duty arm here, save one! This match is a 48-round affair under the clock and shot at various distances. Using speedloaders to charge my 11 with versus their magazine slam reload can sometimes be a bridge-too-far. Thanks again for your interest sir.

Thanks for the good read. You had fun though, right?
Not quite in context but I like it anyway.
