I recently purchased an 8" barrel and shroud from EWK.
First let me say that it is beautiful. Also much more accurate than my 6" DW (which was already pretty accurate). I should add that Eric at EWK was great to work with.
Quality scope rings have not been easy to find, though.
Now my question. When attaching my new barrel, i noticed that even with the gap properly set, there is a little play in the barrel. It's not so much that you you can see it move, but you can feel it. I tried my 6" with the same results. It seems rock solid once the shroud is attached and both are accurate. Just curious if this is normal or is there a problem with the gun?

Great picture, thanks for sharing!!!
On the threads, there can be alot of variables there. Long story made short, on some DW's my barrels can be a little bit loose. The reason for this is on some Dan Wesson's (actually quite a few), over time, for the last couple threads in the frame, the frame threads get "peened" down to be tight on the barrel threads.
Now threads are made with a certain amount of clearance. When I make the barrel threads, if I make them on the upper end of the thread class (tighter) they can be still within spec, but won't screw into the frame with the peening issue because the frame threads are now out of spec and tighter than they should be.
So to solve that problem I make them on the loose end so they fit. Again, still within spec but just on the loose end of the fit allowed. So far, its worked well, there're been a few people that the threads have been a tight fit, and needed some oil and working the barrel in and out a few times for it turn freely.
We're only talking a few thousandths here-that's why you can "feel" its loose, but can't see it too prominently.
