On this .22 I just bought the rear site adjusting screw will only go back in forth 1/8″. Soaked it with WD40 but still the same. Also what is the little hole that doesn't go all the way through next to the adjusting screw? Thanks

First, let me say that WD-40 is not a lubricant.  Try soaking it in a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone.

Second the little hole should have a roll-pin in it, I believe.  It is the means by which the blade is secured to the sight.

Good luck on getting the sight freed up.

Actually I use WD as a penetrant because it is thinner. It will act as a lubricant to enough of a degree to get rusty things loose. The part that gets me is the bluing on this gun is like new with zero signs of rust. I wish I had an exploded view of the sight.

The windage screw will take an amazing amount of pressure.  I've had a few rear sights that I thought were welded in place.  let it soak and just keep working the screw left/right--use pressure, but don't overdue it.  It will eventually work itself loose.

Somewhere on this site there is an exploded view of both frame sizes and I believe the sight is included.  I can't remember where and I can't find the link.

C'mon guys, somebody help this man out. please.

Shoot: I hope you are right. However rear sight blade itself is loose to the main part of the sight body that is pinned to the frame. So that is another problem. It can't be that complicated in there. Any help is certainly appreciated.

Here is a link to the exploded view in the user manual in the FAQ section to the right of your screen. Not the best picture but it may help. Check the parts list to see what is what. Good luck.

That small hole is probably not a roll pin, it is more likely to be a very small screw, and it is the windage screw retaining screw. Your best bet is to pull the sight off, completely disassemble the rear sight, clean and re-lube everything, and then see where you are.

Second best option (actually First best IMO) is buy a Millet rear.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

You're right Steve.  I looked at mine and it is a very small hex-head set screw, and appears to be the same size as the one that secures the front sight.

My guns sights show no type of screw in the little hole. It doesn't look like a roll pin. It looks like a pin that was punched in because what is visible appears deformed, I looked with 2 pair of glasses and a light. I checked another sight and it's the same way.

It appears there is no way to safely take this sight apart. There's only two major pieces to these rear sights plus a screw and a hole with something in it which must be to attach the main body to the adjustable part.

I've looked everywhere to see if I could learn anything. The main body must have threads so the rear sight moves with the screw. The only thing I can think of is if the threads got damaged. The sight shows no type of damage though. It could be that someone tried to turn it after it stopped and damaged the threads.

The research I've done tells me these sights were a problem because the two main parts would become loose. I swapped sights from my HD gun to the .22. I'll likely get a Millet sight. I'd still like to know what happened in there though just out of curiousity. Thank you guys for the help.

Can you post a pic of your sight so I can see which version it is?  We may be able to help more if we see it.

Are you saying that there were not 2 springs under the sight?. If that is the case, this might be one of the aftermarket Behlert rear sights. I believe they did away with the springs, and the elevation screw actually moved the sight up and down, rather than holding it down against spring pressure.

This does not really clarify the windage problem, but might explain why this rear sight seems so different than what we're used to.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Both springs are there. Elevation works fine. You cannot adjust for windage though. The .22 is from 79-80, the Model 15 I took the sight off to put on the .22 is from 1978. Having the sight off and analyzing it there appears to be no way to separate the two main bodies. On the .22 sight the two parts move have play but the .357 sight everything is tight and it appears they are the exact same design. Both sights have the white outline from these years. Here are some pictures with the .22 sight (the bad one) swapped onto my HD Model 15:

I have that same sight on my 15-2, and I don't see a way that the sight readily comes apart either. All the more reason to buy Millets whenever you see them.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Optics Planet has Millet sights. There are two versions though, a 00002 and a 00003. What are the differences?

I had this same problem on a 15-2 and gave up, bought a new one from CZ and probblem cured.  If you figure it out, let me know the cure as I have another rear sight that just siezed up last outing and will no longer move either.

Having windage trouble with a newly purchased (to me) model 15 .357. Shoots HARD

left. I have the rear sight all the way over and is on @ 25yds. But still left @ 50 yds. I placed a order for a Millett  rear sight. i hope it works. I did have the revolver inspected

by a gunsmith before purchase. All looks OK.   Old style sight w/small hex key not

like my .44 with flat screw adj.

I have personally noticed over the years that more than a few DW's need to be cranked fairly far over to the right to get on POA. I haven't checked, but I think the Millet will give you a little more range of adjustment, as I recall.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
