The hot Corbon 240 PD ammo just rips hand up when shoot my 629 Smith 3", but the DW 4" it's like a mild load but loud. I would not shoot one of my hot 300 grain hand loads in the Smith, not sure the 629 would hold up w/o damage, then there is having hand hammered by the recoil and being sore for a couple days. I load some 900 fps 240 gr loads with TrailBoss that is a sweet load in the 3 inch 629 and in the DW if not for the little bit of smoke and noise I would think it misfired.

I wanted to chime in. I was shooting my .44's yesterday. My Encore 44 non-compensated barrel was brutal. I had a custom wooden grip on it. I have a grip that is 1/2 rubber on the back side for my T/C 30-30 pistol. It really helps, but the 30-30 barrel is compensated too. On my DW 44 not the heavy barrel design but is ported helps. Not bad to shoot. I really love shooting my DW 41 mag with the heavy barrel that's not bad at all. My 445 SM is compensated is not as bad a my Encore 44, but she packs a wallop. After shooting those guns yesterday, I can feel it in my elbow. The Encore 44 kicked the worst of all of them. I think a heavy barrel with a compensator would be the trick. Oh! Mine you I was shooting 300 gr XTP. I had a 100 rounds of 240 gr XTP come in yesterday. I will be loading those today for the .445 SM and 44 mag and a handful of 44 spl. My recoil should drop some.
By the way has anyone found a really nice ergonomic soft grip for DW to help reduce recoil. I'm thinking of something different than pachymayr. The Encore grip has a lot more rear padding. It really acts like a shock absorber.

You only shoot the ported till you go to remove and clean, I have two 8" barrels (SS 44) I would love to get rid of very reasonable.
I think I have an 8" 44 shroud I need a barrel for--not sure if the shroud is ported though,,, have to look tonight.

Say if necessary your drilling the shroud???? If your shroud is not ported, maybe we can do a swap. I'll have to check mine, but the SS shroud is ported, will have look at blued to be sure. Both of these barrels are SS factory ported barrels.

I think I see a swap working up, if it's a 744, but don't remember the new blued gun being ported. Will check after I finish my chicken pot pie and the peach pie with ice cream.

Well I have a ported with unported barrel inside, if your shroud is in good shape like mine I'll still sell the barrel for $20 and swap even on the shrouds.
I'm in bed at present getting ready to do some reading on this little notebook, but send email to me and we can work out details tomorrow if you like the idea and trade some pictures. Here it is mounted, and it hasn't been fired since picture taken. oldnavy6393@gmail.com

Well I got to take the youngest (3.5) grandson to doctor appointment at 8 this morning that the wife didn't tell me about till after posting last night. So it will probably be closer to noon before I can post or email pictures.
I had planned on taking the M-44 to range to sight in new 2-7x32 Swift I mounted on the V10 barrel. It also looks like weather will have me messed up later today, seems it's suppose to rain (40%) today.

I've gotta say...it's probably a good thing I don't have a laptop in my bed, or I may never get any sleep. I only get about 6 hours as it is, on a good night. Too often lately, it's 4.5 ~ ish. I can only imagine if I had a "bed computer"... hehe

Well I can't find my camera, I guess the wife has it with her at work. However I've seen new stainless guns that are not as nice as this gun. I keep cleaned and waxed, and as with most of my DW's I mainly shoot them in 4" or 6" configuration.

Shoot that looks lot like the photo's I tried here in the house last night, maybe not as much glare. I'll try again later this morning for picture.
Something I hadn't thought about is my shroud is D&T by Eric of EWK fame here. Is your shroud tapped? I not you would need to send to Eric for D&T and he can send it on to me. IIRC he charges $20 or $25 including shipping for the survice. You would think I would remember after as many as he's done for me.
Also if you want it to be just an even swap include your non ported barrel and I will send both my ported barrels, the one has only had about dozen rounds fired and the other I have no idea but is in excellent shape.
