I read a while back that the forging on the Dan's were better than the Smith's therefor  stronger, and will withstand hotter loads. I'm sure that models vary, but I have a Smith 586, and a Dan 15-2, and looking at them from the top, the Dan has a thinner cylinder than the Smith, and read that It's actually stronger because of the forging. Any truth?

I can't give a scientific answer, but I will say that I shoot loads out of my DW that I would never put in my 686...

I have a 586 no dash as well, Overall outside dimension of the DW cylinder is smaller, the

difference you will see is the spacing gap between chambers is wider on the 586 but the distance

( or thickness ) of the chamber to outside edge of cylinder is not.

Yes, the forging and the frame size is the strength the DW is noted for.

Here's the DWF Disclaimer: No statement on the Dan Wesson Forum should be considered as approval or recommendation for any cartridge loading, commercial/re-manufactured/reloaded or otherwise sourced.

On the other hand, I've never seen a DW that was damaged or otherwise failed with any appropriate commercial or reloaded ammunition, shot in an otherwise functional gun.

My personal opinion is Shoot It! The Dan Wesson revolvers were designed and manufactured to be shot, and the incidence of broken DW's is

Slim to None, and Slim's out of town wink

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Buffalo Bore Ammo labels a short list of recommended gun manufactures on their heavy +P

rated ammunition....Dan Wesson is on that list.

"  This new load is designed ONLY for certain firearms. They are as follows; Ruger Red Hawk, Ruger Super Red Hawk, Ruger Super Blackhawk or Vaquero, Freedom Arms Model 83, Taurus Raging Bull, Colt Anaconda and Dan Wesson Revolvers "

Glad to see that the Colt Anaconda is on that list. I have decided that buying an anaconda will help treat my DWAS. Next step is more research amd haunting GB. I worry it could lead to a colt python craving. Nah, I' rather have a supermag than a python. Pythons aren't on the buffalo bore list. Or smiffs.
