I purchased a 357mag Revolver, sight unseen, and on comparing it with my present 32H&R revolver, the grip tags are different with the 32 having an exposed side and the blued 357 having "solid" sides. The screws also are different lengths and thread. Can anyone enlighten me on the situation, please??
Many thanks
The 32 is a younger gun. The slots on the tang are maybe to lighten the gun. I don't think it serves any other purpose. The Blued gun seems to have a 5 digit serial number. That would place its production in the mid 70s. It seems to have the shorter hammer spur. That changed several times. A little longer around serial number 100,000. Maybe1976. Then in 1982 stainless were made and stainless got a knurled hammer and slotted grip tang. . Blued guns did not get the knurled hammer until 1986. Not much difference besides that.Just the improved sideplates when the respective Hammers were knurled. The earliest 32 mag was 1983 I believe. That was when H&R and Federal introduced it. I am not sure what screws you are referring to but there is a short screw for the undercover and service grip styles.

I will do my best to explain grip screws. My observations not fact. Most OEM grips use an 8/32 X 1 1/2" screw. The undercover style grips use an 8/32 X 1 1/4" screw. Some aftermarket grips use different lengths. Sometimes the grips vary or wear and require washers and or screw length changes. As always with Dan Wessons, there are a lot of one offs and anomalys.
