I have always wanted to have a .357 magnum double-action revolver rifle. Call me crazy, but that's what I want. I don't like any of the existing products out there,... too clunky or WAYYY overpriced or unreliable.
Dan Wesson revolvers, in my mind, have the very best actions for toughness, reliability, and accuracy.
Is there any way to buy or design or craft or adapt a ~20" barrel to fit a Dan Wesson revolver?
I don't care about aesthetics. If it doesn't necessarily look like a Dan Wesson factory original part, that's okay.
Thanks for any info,
Bob

Would be an interesting project for sure! The practical ballistic difference between the 15" barrel already available for the DW and an imaginary 20" barrel is basically nothing. If you're good at woodworking you could make a nice forearm piece that could be attached to the underside of the 15" barrel, and then make a shoulder stock to attach to the frame post. Presto; done!
Retrofitting an existing barrel to fit the DW would be a daunting and exhausting task even for a qualified gunsmith. It couldn't be attached in the standard way (no cylinder/barrel gap adjustment), and would most likely be permanent.
Admittedly the 15" DW barrel assemblies are few and far between and rather expensive, but in the long run you would likely come out ahead cost wise, and also end up with a gun you could change back to a standard revolver in just a few minutes.
You could check with Eric at EWK arms to see how long it would take him to make a 20 inchr' for you, but I have a feeling we're talking years.
Just my two cents.
Good luck!!

Ok, diagnosis is in and you are, indeed, crazy. But crazy for not thinking of it sooner! That would be one impressive and accurate gun. Would like to see the contraption on a DW revolver if you ever get one made. 3ric is right about EKW hopefully being interested in making it. (be ready to wait) . Good luck!

I have seen 18" Ruger 10/22 barrels modified to thread into DW 22 revolvers. A thin brass shim stock washer was used to be able to properly index the sight as well as make a good seal between the barrel and revolver. A guy on E-bay used to sell them. I almost bought one but then figured I would just shoot one my 10/22s

I've been in contact with Eric at EWK for about 2 years now waiting for him to make the 15" barrel assemblies. He kept giving me estimated timeframes until his last email a couple months ago:
"I'm afraid to say anymore dates at this point! But pretty sure its going to be after summer, there is alot going on right now!

I just found out in the UK, because of their gun laws being even stupider than ours, a revolver has to have a really long barrel. I wonder if one of those barrels could be bought here and installed on a Dan Wesson .357. All I'd have to do then is build some sort of a shoulder stock.
Also, where could I get one of the 15" barrels mentioned above?
A note of caution. If you fit a shoulder stock to a handgun with less then a 16 inch barrel you are creating a short barreled rifle. That is a felony punishable by a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison. Unless you have a $200 permit from the BATF. That can take a long time to get. There are other rules also. I would check with the BATF or a very knowledgeable FFL who should know. I am sure Ron knows, as would many others here who might chime in.
