Beautiful Colt. This is the gun that started me in the addiction, a friend had a 6 inch Python that we would shoot and I had to have a .357 long range shooter. The first gun I saw was at a local pawn shop, it was a blued Dan Wesson 8 inch HV with the Zebra grip and yellow insert. Bluing so deep you... anyway, he said 200 bucks and I said sold. That was over 20 years ago and I still have it. It was dumb luck that I ran into one of the few revolvers back then that could compete with the accuracy of the Python. We still shoot together 20 some years later although he sold the Python to buy a Browning Hi Power.

Just the other day I was talking to a customer/acquaintance, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we both shoot, although he is almost exclusively a long/shot gunner. Then he says that the only two handguns he still has are a Colt Python, and a Diamondback in .22lr, and he likely will get rid of them one day.
Guess who tripped over his own tongue getting "firsties" on those two
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

SuperDan. Regarding your Python. I have a 6 inch stainless Python and a DWA 15-2 8 inch. The Python typically shoots 40-50 fps faster than the Dan using the identical loads. I owned a small gun shop in Colorado in the 80's, I was a Colt (and S&W) authorized dealer. My Colt rep claimed the Python barrels were finely finished polished to 800 grit or finer when he'd compare them to the S&W's, Dan's, TC's, and Ruger's of the day. He claimed this fine barrel lapping was the ticket to both fps and accuracy. I think this is largely the case. I recently polished the barrel of my DWA 15-2 with 800 grit and the 50 meter groups shrunk by about a 1/2 inch. I personally doubt its the rate of twist difference between the Python (1x14)and the Dan (1x18.75). If you decide to try this, see bronells for the 800 grit lapping compound, try about 40 strokes in the first third of the barrel (closest to the forcing cone), about 20-30 stroke mid barrel, and about 10-20 stroke in the last third of the barrel. the do 8-10 stroke thru the full barrel and finsh it up by THOROUGHLY cleaning the barrel. Fire 6 shot thru the gun to dirty it up a bit and then measure it against your known data.
Anybody know where i can get a 1x14 twist 8 inch barrel for my 15-2? New?
