I've got a model 14 with 6" barrel. I'd like to mount a scope on the shroud without having to drill the top strap. I know I'll have to drill and tap the shroud as it doesn't have a vented rib. I can live with that if I knew who makes or made such a mount. I'm sure someone here knows about such a thing. Or do i really need to go up to a 8" and scope that for long range type shooting.

B-Square makes a clamp-on mount that does not require drilling anything.

Yeh  but it goes on a vented rib the model 14 has a solid rib, I would have to put a new shroud on it, which is a thought. I should have got a model 15 but this was un- used and priced right.

If I am correct B-Square no longer make the DW clamp mount, only DW mounts made now are DT mounts I am told. I just had my shroud's D&T for my 15 and 744 so I can scope them. Did a lot of searching for six months and ended up D&T shrouds I bought for the guns.

I think I will use a holographic for the 744 as I have one just sitting in the safe, I picked up a NIB NcStar 4x30 pistol scope for $20 at my friends pawn & gun shop that I will use on the 15 to see how a scope works for me. I have tried scopes on a few pistols and revolvers and as yet to like them, the tube red dots work for me however and I also have one of those to try on a blued gun that I picked up for $25 last month.

Hey Waldo,

B-Square still has the DW mount on their site and it's pricey.

http://secure.armorholdings.com/b-square/dw.html

I personally didn't like this mount much seemed to add to much bulk to the gun.

I had posted this on another thread but it may apply here to:  I have two of these and like them both.

The Jack Weigand mounts seem to do a good job.

http://www.jackweigand.com/

You  can buy from them direct.  On their site they list specific applications for DW revolvers.

Well, whatever you use, as long as the finished product looks better than this guy's attempt, you're doing great!rofl

That's not a scope, it's an aid for a front sight challenged person.  Wonder what minimum focus is for that scope?

JB is this the clamp on model like on my 722 below? If so I will order it for my 715 that is still waiting for real range time other then a few test firings. The Hogue grip is gone now and has been replaced by Pachmayr Presentation Grips. Also has a nice woody for show.

Has anyone ever mounted a Buehler one piece base on a shroud? I just picked one up for a Dan Wesson on E-bay for $5.00 new old stock. Not sure if I can find the rings though but thought it was cheap enough to take a look at. It has windage screws in the rear and the front ring twists in..

Good morning

I have used the clamp on B Square on my 357 and it worked well.  BUT I soon decided as I would not be shooting that dan past 50 yards hunting so it was sort of needless.

I also used a B SQ on my 375 SM... That was a joy as I had no dought about the power out to 100 yards hunting.

The mounts are fat.. ugly but work.  They will leave slight marks on the ribs.  They can be had on E-place for reasonable prices IF you are patient or catch one passing through unnoticed .

I personally would NOT bore holes in a NICE 8" shroud.  Get a clunker.. paint it black if need be.  I would NOT drill and scope a 6" unless money was a factor or the 6" was a clunker.

Just my thoughts about scopes.

I have a NIB 715 8" that I want a B-Square for, I have a new VH4 utility B&S for that 715  that just arrived yesterday. My 15 VH6 I D&T because that is what I bought it for so as not to mess a nice V6 that is original to the gun.

I had the 744 VH8 D&T as it was not worth buying a new shroud to mount a scope on, because the PO had already had the gun D&T on the frame instead of the shroud. So the 744 is not a premium gun anymore, but I do have a VH6 barrel for the 744 and I hope to get a VH4 for it latter this year.

The only clamp on mount for the model 14 that I have seen is a Buehler.  It clamps to the topstrap, some what hard to find.  I have a NIB one, PM if interested.

Hey Waldo, I'm not sure what that mount is on the 722 you posted but it's not a b-sqaure.  Anyone know what type  of mount that is?

I think the guy who mounted the scope on the Ruger must be pretty challenged!

Says B-Square on the mount so I beg to differ, and I have seen two others just like it on auction sights.

Do not ask for picture, battery died in camera and $60 for a new battery has me turned off with a 7 year old digital camera. May end up buying a new camera.

That's for setting me straight Waldo!  I have wondered who made those in the past.  I like the looks of that much more so than the one pictured below:

Actually Jody I like the practical look of the rail you posted, and have seen a few pictures of guns with it installed. The type I have is a PIA to set up, because of so many variations to how it can go together.
