Does anyone know if the large frame revolvers and the small frame revolvers use the same three hole pattern for the factory scope mount? I'm guessing that they probably do. I have a stainless 44 magnum hunt pac with a factory Burris scope and mount. I used an optical comparitor to get the factory hole pattern off of both the shroud and Burris mount.

I am making a custom weaver rail for my 22LR to mount a Aimpoint Micro H1. I figure if I am going to drill the shroud, I might as well put a factory hole pattern in it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Steve

Last time I heard "optical comparitor" used was in the USN.

Anyway I perfer the new DW rail mount because of all the slots that give more option as to scope and ring mounting, but down side is D&T of the shroud. What I did was bought new VH6 for the 15, but on the 722, 715 and 744 I have tried the clamp on mounts and do not like how high it puts scope above the bore, so I have taken them off and will be getting new shroud for 357 V8 but will use the 744 VH8 shroud.

BTW, Welcome to the DWF Sign.  I also don't like the clamp-on style of mount.  I have a factory Burris on one gun.  For the other I used this:

It uses the same hole pattern as DW.

Thanks for the input guys. I made the mount and tapped the barrel yesterday. It worked out pretty good. I've yet to shoot it because we've still got a foot or more of snow on the range behind our shop. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. For posterity's sake the #6-48 hole pattern with all dimensions measured from the rear of the barrel shroud is: 0.250", 1.250", 1.557" on the centerline.

We have a couple of very accurate electronic 3 axis measuring systems but for finding the simple one axis location of a couple of holes to an edge you can't beat the simplicity of the old school optical comparitor. I was done before the computer controlled machines would have booted up.
