Hi Guys:
Took my new to me but old Model 44 (44 Magnum) Dan Wesson to the range yesterday.
I had the 8 inch barrel with DW scope mount and a 42mm Red Dot (vintage Blazer) scope mounted.
Within 3 shots, the scope's mount showed its flaw, as this was a used scope that came with the revolver pac.
The knurled/slotted knob on the rear most scope screw had let go of its screw. It will not really tighten up well. So I took the scope off and the rail off and went to Iron sights for sighting in and all was well. Sort of...
Now, The scope works swell BUT the cross screws need to be replaced along with their nuts.
These must fit the Dan Wesson weaver rail slots....
Any ideas as to where I can get these narrow and fine threaded screws that will stand up to the 44 Magnum recoil?
Or is this particular scope trying to tell me something... such as... "Dude, I am NOT built for the 44 Mag".
If so and you were to start over... what red dot would you suggest I go with...?
I know a C-More could hold up to the recoil as I have them on my Open Class 38 Super Comp compensated pistols....
Your thoughts?

I'm assuming you are talking about the 'scope ring' cross bolt. My suggestion, throw the rings out and buy new rings. Any ring that will fit a weaver rail and is the correct diameter will work. Basically, there are two diameters. I believe most are 1" diameter. My experience with the 44s I have is you really only need two rings. You may see pics of guys with three or more rings holding a scope to a weaver type rail, but I stand by the two ring as a standard.

He's running a 42 mm tube…. they have integral rings. Only option is to replace cross bolt.

Shoot,
I don't think I have ever seen one of those. I am interested in seeing one sometime if someone wants to post a pic. Not being familiar with the scope, I thought 42 was the objective lens.
If the only option is to replace the bolt, I know some gun shops have boxes of junk and you may be able to find one there for very little money. Just a thought…

Generic pic, but this is the standard 42mm red dor configuration with built in rails... Fits right on a weaver rail.
