I have a Vented Barrel with adjustable rear sight so I assume it is a Model 15-2V. I looked all over the serial number forums and pages and I cannot find any similar 5 digit numbers let alone ones starting with 78. My S/N is 78118, does this mean it's 1978 year? I'm considering on either hanging onto the Gun or selling but not sure of a reasonable costs. I only have the 6" barrel and I have the barrel tool.

Any knowledge on this would be great.

The gun is probably from the later 70's buy that 78 doesn't correlate with a date.

That serial number is most likely around early 1977. Does your gun have a fixed front sight like this, with no color insert?

Charger Fan, your gun is probably from late 1974 or early 1975. The gun above is probably from 1976 and has an interchangable front sight by 78,000. Of course, nothing is certain.

What Old Dog said 1974-75, the colored sights started in 1976

Ole Dog & Dan Fan, you guys are right...don't know what I was thinking. I had to track down a post from 2014 made by Eric Wesson, where he said "1975  Started 15-2 Series at Serial Number 50,000".

So I edited my incorrect year span, to avoid future confusion.
