I've been wondering if the change in serial numbering has any dating. The early guns had only numbers, then they seemed to incorporate the caliber and a B or S and some special leatering such as EG or IHMSA does anyone know what the years these changes started.Laugh

pops2- There seems to be no real logic to the serial numbering. I think B and S may refer to Blued and Stainless, I think EG is Elgin Gates, I had a .44 Magnum briefly that I think started with a "44". Other guys here have been buying DW's more regularly than I over the years, and may know more, but the conventional wisdom seems to be that with several changes in ownership and location, with records in the hands of BATF, it feels like a "who the hell knows for sure" situation. Someone smarter than me may jump in with more info

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Pops2 - great questions.  We have some information, but not nearly enough (as Steve noted) to provide a decent chronology by model and serial number.

I have posted a question to Seth Wesson, Jr and if we're lucky he or Eddie, the former mfg. mgr. in Monson and Palmer, might be able to sketch something out for us.

Stay tuned.

EG is Elgin Gates. My 722-VH10 is numbered with ETG at the beginning, also for Elgin T. Gates.
