Got my November Shooting Times today and raced to page 78 for the review of the DW 715. Nothing new to those of us in the know. Sweet looking. There was one "belm" om GB with a little pock mark on the trigger face for $800. Soon.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to pick this one up for my collection.

I don't want to sound like 'Mr Negative', but are production costs so low that it's in the company's economic best interest to dump these rather than pay employee time to correct minor 'blemishes'? Don't take this the wrong way, but it seems a question begging to be asked.

I have a sinking feeling that the re-release of the new 715 is just the blems from the last time they made them. And NOS left over. Why else would you put blemished guns on the street to ruin the market for new production.

Could be feeling out the price? This way they could test the market with "blemished" stock at a lower price to gauge market price? Can't wait to see if they offer sets. I hear from Genny (sp?) that you can pick up the molded cases for $25.

DW is shipping "blem" 1911's too. Interesting concept that asks the consumer to decide whether they are OK with having a functional but cosmetically imperfect product for not much less than full retail. Maybe they are finding that they need to a little deeper than "not much less than".

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Do other manufacturers do this? A few years back I bought a M-24 Smith off an auction site. Smith had previously discontinued nickel versions of this model in their 'Classic' series. Retail was $1000-1100. Some dealer in Ohio was selling them with shipping for 605.00, so I bought one. Never saw anything to make me believe the gun was anything more than a discontinued item. Well, it did have the 'Hillary Hole' but...big-grin

Sort of a different business model at work here.

I'm not aware of other manufacturers that release blems, BUT I don't follow many other brands very closely.

If I was in the market for a DW 1911, and the price was right on a blem, I'd buy one. Even as a blem, DW 1911's currently command a higher price than I'd pay.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I got one of the "Blem" 's and I cannot find anything wrong with it. I don't know why its marked as such but it is.  The seller I got it from didn't disclose it was a blem until the money was on the way or I would have backed out.  I have shot the gun and it is dead on accurate and functions like all my other Dan's so I'll keep it and shoot it.
I have wondered about the soundness of the business model that puts out a flood of blems prior to release of the 'perfect' guns.  Seems bassackwards to me.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

I had the opportunity to get a close up of Scorpio's at the PA Range Day earlier this year and agree there was no blemishes to be seen.  We've discussed this topic before and to be honest CZ-USA doesn't seem to do anything regarding Dan Wesson in a logical manor!  Several years ago the DWF compile a petition to bring back Dan Wesson Revolvers, this petition was sent to Alice Poluchova CZ-USA's president, she never responded.   One can question the practice of selling the blem's but the bigger question to me is why reintroduce the 715's first?  1502's and 715's are by far the most common models and easy to find why not reintroduce the large frame / SuperMags first?

Needless to say I certainly hope they succeed, because I would love to be able to submit an order for a custom DW revolver in any size frame!
