I posted on NEW MEMBER with PIC . Is there a place on gun that has the model # marked.

I can not find it anywhere. By info obtained on this great site I am presuming its a 15

but dont know if it is  -2 . It is a Monson gun.

Shoots high and back site is all the way down . It would be about right if you set a little brass ball on top of the front site. Does some one make a higher front site. Any other way to correct this  ?

Thanks , Tom

Tom,

Your gun is a model 15-2.  As for shooting high have you tried any other ammo?

I had to do a double take when I saw the topic "Shoots high" 🙂  Aside from the ammo, are you shooting from a good rest and good handhold...

I feel like I had a good handhold and was using .38 spec Rem FMJ [ RMC } Wally world

green box. I even shoot at 21' and still high. I don't want to shoot anymore till I get

the barrel wrench I ordered as I checked the gap and some are as much as .09. [tight]

I ordered a higher front sight at the same time. will try again when parts arrve and set up better bench etc.

Thanks - Tom

If the gun had been set up for longer range shooting, it might have had the standard sight replaced with a shorter one, same configuration, and without comparing the two side by side it wouldn't be noticable.  If what you have is a Patridge style ramp sight without the red insert, that's almost certainly what happened.  There are at least two heights of the front sight with red insert though so even if you have a red insert it could be that it was changed out.

I suspect your issue will go away with the new sight and setting the BC gap to between 0.004 and 0.006".

Yes it is the red/orange insert sight. Wrench set and sight should be here any day.

I plan on setting gap at 4.

Thanks , Tom

Be sure to set the gap where the barrel and cylinder are closest.. The cylinders can be off slightly and you don't want part of the cylinder getting too close to the barrel. Once it's hot and the front of the cylinder gets the residue build up you could lock the revolver up.

OK thanks- They were running from a loose 7 to tight 9 so there is some difference.

I set all of mine to .002 for the tightest position and have had zero problems.

Barrel wrench arrived . Reset gap to just under 4 [ dont have 2 gauge ] . Installed new higher sight. Its not red insert . Just flat up ramp. Back to the farm range . Rem UMC 130 gr MC . 25 yards this time with rest assist. Six shots , none on 9x11 paper. Up to 21 feet and hitting bottom of cardboard box. Re install red insert ramp. Got it back on paper but low . Raised sight and close but not consistent. Tried six  357 mag REM UMC 125 grn JSP . Four of six in paper. Guess I need to work on control or find something it likes to eat better.

Any suggestions on good store ammo to buy and try that they like better ?

Son tried but was shooting about same as me. Only a little more left.

Maybe I was just having a bad day as I unloaded my P3at at 21' and only edged the paper.

I can usually put them all in 9" circle.

TRy again soon
