Short barrels and wrenches for .44 models

There is a need to have short barrels / wrenches for

some hunting purposes. 6" and even 4" are too long.

Tom,

You can contact Genny at Dan Wesson for additional barrels and the wrench.  If I'm not mistaken they did not offer the 44 with a barrel shorter than 4" however maybe they will do a custom barrel for you.

Here is the contact information:

For parts call 607.336.1174 and for service or repairs try 607.336.1174 ext 24.

Forget about the custom idea for now DW is so busy makeing SA's that they do not have time to even make any revolvers and Genny is saying no custom orders. The 44 never came with a barrel smaller the 4".

Short barrels and wrenches for .44 models

I emailed Genny - she did not say - NO -

She asked me to contact sales-department of

Worldwidesportsnetwork

which is probably the best idea up to now.

Supposing there is a need for the item

for about 500 units 2,5" barrels

(even i this is streched over some time)

i am shure they will take the opportunity

to make this money.

If they dont start it today it would be

nice to have this as DW original part in future.

==> to whom it may concern:

This would also be a sign for reliability of

product support for Dan Wesson products. RCM

Mercedes-Benz guaranties original parts for all cars.

Result of this are high prices for the used ones.

It should be nice to read:  " ... you'll see why the DW has

gained such an excellent reputation for reliability and durability ..."

The Wantlist is also a good tool to figure

this out  - Thanks to Jody -

Regards Tom

Tom, I of all people want DW revolvers to survive but I have been told by Genny no special orders at this time, with the small staff and the production of SA's.

I'm not sure what the attraction to very short barrels is, especially for hunting. Accuracy hasn't been the short barrels best trait.

Short range, self defense is where short barrels shine, not for hunting where accuracy is needed.

The ejector rod might be longer than the barrel.

I too have the need/want for a shorter than 4″ 744 bbl.  I have a friend who says he can fabricate one from a 6″ bbl and shroud. He works as a Machinest and said he would do it after I get him a bbl & shroud.

ADDED: I need the Shroud with the shrot eject rod housing. The full under lug shroud would require welding. Does anyone here know where I can get at least the shroud from?  I would even consider the 4" shroud for the right price.

I own a 357 Pistol Pak and a 744 w/ a 4″bbl. I haven't shot the 357 yet because it is NIB and I am not worhty of it. That and I own serveral S&W 357's. I do shoot the 744 and have been on the auction sites for bbl's for it.

This DW thing is starting to become an obsestion. I need a 22 PP and at least one model in 41mag.

ADDED: My friend says that a 3″ bbl would be easier tp make due to the ejector.

Thanks for bringing up this thread, milk! Wasn't aware DW didn't make a shorter shroud for the .44. The .357 shrouds and barrels I'm starting out with are hopefully going to be ready soon. (Estimating a couple weeks right now) We can add these .44's to the list too, they would be pretty simple to make, with the .44's I'd have to get a couple more pieces of tooling...

What Spikey says is very possible, but it would seem to be a shame to shorten an original...

I'm at work & don't have the guns in front of me right now to compare, but I don't think the ejector rod length would be an issue on a .44...it's the SuperMags that have a longer ejector rod.

Never hurts to ask, lol! Yes, making barrels and shrouds from scratch...standard ones like DW did, plus the really exciting ones-custom/new designs...

Looking at my .44 its like CF is saying, the 2.5" wouldn't be a problem with the ejector rod...someone will have to chime in with a supermag cause I don't have one of those....yet...Laugh

Hey Mike, Don't have a price yet, but my plan is to have them priced less than from CZ...its been taking quite a bit to get setup to do the shrouds and barrels, but once everything is down pat (just about there finally!) should be able to do just about anything design wise in a shroud. The only limiting factor would be what barrel blanks we can get, some of the Supermag calibers I'd imagine are not going to be easy to find blanks for...

Jody, Good deal, that sounds great!
