Hold off on the automotive polish.  If the scratches are deep enough to get below the surface, take them down with a 320 - 400 grit wet or dry paper, and finish it off with a 3M "Between Coat" finishing pad (brown Scotchbrite).  If the scratches are just light, skip the sandpaper and use the Scotchbrite only.   Polish will just shine it up and won't take the scratches out or match up with the original finish.

No polish needed- A tan scotch brite pad by itself, with a light touch will make everything right!

I took everyones advice and picked up some scotch-brite pads. I worked on the 6" shroud first to see what kind of results I could get. There are a bunch of dings that are too deep to sand out. I guess I'll just have to live with those. One of these days I'll get some decent light to take pictures in, but this will work for now.

Original finished as received on the left, and new satin finish on the right.

Nice job I think! To me, the one on the left looks as though somebody polished it at one time. The one you did looks like a factory Dan Wesson finish.

Well, I'm making progress. Fixing the frame is a lot tougher to get right than the shrouds. At some point in the future I'll have a professional redo this one, but for now this will work. The gun certainly looks better in the pictures than it does in person.

Nice work cleaning her up! Certainly looks good from pictures and the grip really sets her off!
