Bought a .357, 15-2 revolver with 4 inch barrel 20 + years ago.  Less than 100 rounds.  Could not hit broad side of a barn.  Discovered the barrel shroud slightly rotated from correct alignment.  Put the gun in storage.  Today, would like to revisit the shroud alignment.  Either the pin in the frame or hole in shroud is in the wrong place.  How do I determine which is wrong?  How can the problem be corrected?

If you know someone with the same model, an easy solution would be to try their shroud on your gun and vice versa, the wrong fit will stand out.

Hi octalman, I just returned a shroud and frame to CZ/DW and the hole in the shroud was not drilled or tapped correctly. To get my shroud on I would have to hit it several times with a mallet(which I did not do). Your best bet would be to drop a line to dan wesson and speak to one of there smith's to discuss a repair or you can try another barrel & shroud or just another same size shroud to see if it has the same problem. Hope this helped. You can find the phone number elsewhere in this forum.

Thanks.  Since posting, talked to CZ/DW.  Did not think anything could be done, but were willing to inspect if I sent back.  Disappointing CZ/DW response.  Probably better off finding a good local smith.  Would swap shrouds if could find one.

You might see if anyone locally has the 22 or 32 mod ; I know the Monson models used the same frame for the small /med frame revolvers and I have seen 32 shrouds on the 357 revolvers.  At some point they changed the barrel thread so people wouldn't put the wrong barrel on a revolver, but the shrouds aren't threaded and the external dimentions of all the small/med frame barrels are the same as are the large/supermag frames.  I used a 44mag shroud on my 6" barrel for years until a set came up on Ebay(when they allowed sales of barrels) and now I have the 357max shroud and a spare 6"barrel.  You might also consider a spare barrel/shroud from an auction site, if not bid too high and see if that cures the problem.
