You're think I'd know this by now, but every so often questions arise.

Originally, did DW revolvers have different height front sights? I'm thinking primarily of the model 15-2, but also generally. I have noticed the sights appear to be the same height on the ones I have including a new set I purchased from Dan Wesson Arms recently. The exception is my model 22 on which the front sight seems not as high and on the model 14-2 which has a dark ramped front sight which is similar to the model 22.

Second question regarding sight picture. With a square knotch rear sight and the ramped front sight with the color insert, I align the top of the insert with the top of the rear sight so it fills the notch. Then align the front sight at 6  on the target with the POI resting on the top of the colored insert.

Different models had different height front sights, within a model I don't think so.

Yes, different height front sights, and not just the new ones from DWA. I have owned different height fronts (original Monson) for many years, and they have been available from DW/CZ for quite a while. I also have an early DW Norwich fiber optic front

DW/CZ has also had different height Patridge fronts, I think EWK does as well.

I have a sort of mixed bag of front sights, several came to me with a 722 I bought a few years ago, and lower fronts could easily have come with that one.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I had to replace the front sight on a model 15 "First Issue". The one I bought from Dan Wesson Arms just looks very high when I look at the sight picture. I don't have the broken sight to which to compare it. Nothing wrong with the sight, but I didn't seen any option for model or height. Looking at ones on eBay it's difficult to determine the height and no one really mentions the model.

I've seen the Partridge sights, but I was looking for a factory replacement for the broken yellow sight on the model 15. Here are pictures of the gun with the broken sight still attached. Looking at the pictures now, it does look lower than the replacement I bought.

I bought a passel of sights off ebay a while back and included were one of each color of lower profile sights, the only ones I have found. If you have no luck finding one, perhaps from Seth Wesson, PM me with your mailing address and I will send you one. I am particular to the yellow so specify white or red. I have not figured out how to PM with my phone but can recieve. If you want to contact me beside mail, leave a way I can reach you.

Thanks for the offer! I'll keep it in mind. Would you post a picture of the low profile sights so I can perhaps tell what I'm looking for? I'm not sure I would know if I saw them. Is you could put a picture of each, that would be a great help!

Early model 22 had sights slightly lower than 357. Soon after introduction they used the same on both calibers. Found point of impact could be made with rear sight adjustment.  Hugelk

I know this isn't exactly what you were asking, but...

This pic of my model 714 with fixed rear sight, shows a few different height front sight blade options.

Dan-Wesson-2-4-6-inch-barrels.JPGImage Enlarger

Top 6 inch shroud is from a 715, with it's 715 front sight blade installed. It is too tall for a model 714.

Middle 4 inch shroud (mounted) is also from a 715, but it has an EWK Model 14 conversion front sight blade installed.

Bottom 2 inch shroud is a factory 714 shroud with the original 714 front sight blade installed.

Since the model 14-2 has no adjustable rear sight base, it has a shorter front sight blade to compensate for the lack of a rear sight base, and just a rear sight "groove".  Fortunately for us, EWK arms makes a conversion front sight blade to let you get the same point of impact with a model 15-2  shroud installed on a model 14-2. I have purchased a few of them, and they work great at solving the different front sight height issues you encounter using a model 15-2 shroud on a 14-2.

Dan Wesson Model 14 Conversion Front Sight Blade

This "conversion" front sight blade is the solution that allows you to use your Model 15 shrouds on your Model 14 Dan!

Thanks!

Yes, the tall sight blade for the .357 still seems high. I can adjust the read sight. I'm not sure how much I would need to adjust it and if that would leave enough adjustment for fine tuning. I'll just have to take it to the range.
