I have a 722 I bought in approx 1990.  It came as a "single action only" with a 10" bbl using two alignment pins.  Has anyone heard of these guns being converted to standard double action?

I would like to use this gun for (inexpensive) IDPA practice, with a 6" bbl.  It shoots extremely well, 1/2" six shot groups at 25 yds with select ammo.  With cheap Walmart ammo sub 1.5" groups are common.

The frame looks identical to all other DWA 722s.  I would bet that the only modification needed is swapping out a few trigger action parts.  Does anyone have experience with the new DWA, with regard to their repair workmanship and service?

I would recommend sending it to Keith at Dan Wesson.  His contact info is listed under the FAQ section.  It would be nice if you could get additional parts so that you could keep the originals to put it back to single action.

I imagine it can be done and of course it is your choice, but here is my thoughts. A 722 silhouette model is a semi rare fine piece of DW workmanship. For the cost of a new barrel and shroud, plus the cost to ship and convert the revolver, you will probably be close to the cost of good used model 22 or 722. Why not just have two guns. Just my opinione and good luck with however you decide to proceed.

I think this is the very best advice you can get. Your 722 Silhouette is a pretty desireable item, worth much more than the average, run of the mill 722 6".

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Very good points, that I really hadn't thought of.  The cost of the 6 " bbl has already been incurred ($80) and I used a V6 shroud I purchased for my Gold Series to mount optics on.  I had to drill a second hole for the second alignment pin, but it worked out well.  Good thing two tone guns are "in" ... cause that is what I have!

It actually shoots better with the 6" than the 10" it came with.  I suspect the 10" (from Palmer) is not as good as the 6" I just got.  In any event with the 6" bbl and Eley and a couple of other expensive 22lr rounds it shoots 1/2" six shot groups at 25 yds. I don't think I can ask for more than that.  I actually did not try the 10" bbl with these expensive loads, but it did not shoot the cheap stuff as well as the 6", that I am sure of.

I spoke to Keith and he needed to look at it, but felt a swap of some easy parts would do the trick, realatively inexpensively.  The shipping is going to be BY FAR the expensive part ... $70 one way!  I thought maybe someone else had tried it, but apparently there aren't many of these around.  If I decide to make the conversion I will definitely ask for the original parts back, thanks for pointing that out!  Of course I do not know how I could ever sell it, I love this thing and shoot it far more than any of my other guns!

1/2" six shot groups at 25 yds is very respectable~!

Enjoy.
