The 45 Colt is one of the more rare calibers. Since starting the forum back in 2008 I have only seen maybe 5 or 6 for sale.
If you are lucky enough to find one you could order a new cylinder from Dan Wesson and have it setup for moon clips. This way you could swap out the cylinders with no modifications to the gun. I personally would not alter a 745 / 45.

Another of the side tracked postings, man I would love a moon clipped 715 or 15 for sure.
Indeed this is a goal for me as well ( to moon clip my 15-2). My plan right now is to either buy a beater (guy my eye on one locally) or find a complete crane/cylinder assmebly. Then I want to have it customized such as having the cylinder given some coating treatment while its getting cut for the clips anyway.
This way I could swap out the whole crane quickly and know which is which when I am shooting.
DW the king of modularity!!!!
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

To what end? Are you planning on firing 9mm's through it? There's not enough metal in a small frame cylinder for 45ACP.
I don't understand this moon-clip thing anyway. Why shoot 45ACP through a gun designed for 45LC?
I don't get it. You make it harder to load and unload the gun. What a PITA. And I don't see where the performance of the auto cartridge, regardles of caliber will out-perform the correct cartridge.
Seems to me that we have a focus issue here. Perhaps we need to use the right tool for the right job?
Boy, I bet I've angered a bunch of people now.
Hey, it's just my opinion.

Well mike I have two moon clipped S&W's and when used by a well trained individual a moon clipped revolver is extremely fast and easy loaded and unloaded, check out some of the professional shooters on the circuit for S&W these days because one guy has the world speed shooting record. The moon clipped revolver is becoming very popular in competition and S&W has jumped on the band wagon now offering several new models in the last year that are moon clip guns that can be fired with or without the clips. I have a S&W 629 3" barrel that I am have mooned clipped this winter. Also the big clumsy "speed loader" that takes three times as long to load a cylinder and add a lot of bulk to carrying reloads.
And if reloader like me when at the range plinking or training dumping the cylinder often leads to either dropped cases you have to pick up or you risk stepping on. I can remember thinking the same way as you until I got my first moon clipped revolver a S&W 610 that shoot the 10mm auto round that make the 357 take second fiddle in range, flat shooting and even knock down power shooting 180gr or 200gr loads and 135gr loads at 1600fps plus.

I've seen What was listed as DW pin gun in 45acp do any of you recall ever seeing one for sure. I think the Blue Book of Gun Values listed it.?
Is it possible that this is a DW 1911 .45 ACP? This would be a much more likely choice for a pin gun.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I've always liked the S&W 625 and would like a DW alternative.
I guess I won't mention my crazy idea of chambering a .44 DW in 357/44 Bain & Davis then 😀
Thank's, it was bad enough with 357 Maxim etc.
