News Flash!!!

The new DW 715 intro has been planned to coincide with a long awaited event!

Watch your local news for a notification that Hell has ACTUALLY frozen over!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I dunno, I just wonder if CZ hasn't been reading the internet reaction to the 715, and since we're so cheap wink, its gotten pushed on the back burner?

If they are making the 1911's, it would be no problem to make them...other then pushing the 1911's on the back burner...

Or they could be waiting for overseas parts to arrive...

Really a shame its all speculation and no one is here to give us a first hand account of what is up!

You do know do you that DW is a very small operation that has both recently added on to the actual plant building and then has been adding personel and they had to be trained. Now you can bet your sweat bippy that CZ bean counter or head of advertizing dept didn't ask the head man at DW when they could start production.

Not sure how often you guys have ever seen this in the gun world, but it has been so common in the last 20 years as to make one wonder if anyone ever talks with the guy in actual charge of production. I do know that S&W, Ruger, and several others have had production start before they got the "bugs" worked out and then do mass recalls.

Not buying any of it--been dealing in guns for over 20 years and rarely saw a release issue like this.  Especially since it is a re-release.  There are no real changes other than the shroud (that we are aware of).  I personally handled the new 715 at the NRA convention earlier this year, so I know one made it into production.

If this was a DW1911 it would have been released in the winter of 2010 just like cars.  It all depends where your focus is--and CZ/DW's focus is not on the 715.

I do agree people are/were not talking.   The release should not have even been announced until they were ready to go into full production.

CZ is slowly digging a hole for themselves with those of us who matter--high shipping rates, no customer service, etc are not good for business.

Those who are truly on the DW side of the fence are in great favor with us--Keith, Genny, etc always live up to our expectations.

I do hope they turn out a quality product, at this point they have to....

I agree with all you said but the first paragraph. I guess must not be a store dealer or not have seen the recalls talked about on other forums with S&W, Ruger, Sig, etc. I have had two new (Sig, Ruger) like that in the last 10 years and a neighbor has had one S&W and I think two Rugers or vice versa. I know quite afew others that have had problems with guns such as S&W L & N frames with firing pin caused FTF that has returned the gun(s) at least once if not twice. I did that to one S&W and when problem continued I went to an aftermarket FP & Spring and eliminated the problem, but that was not a recall like they had on couple automatics over the last few years. IIRC Ruger has had 3 or 4 recalls in the last 5 years or less.

I'm not in the gun business but I do make things for a living.  We are in the middle of buying multiple CNC lathes right now.

It's a long complex process and the closer you get to it the messier it is.  Just for example you can order a piece of equipment, give them a purchase order and have them tell you, "Sorry, lead time has changed from 16 weeks to 24 weeks.  We'll let you know when we get closer, it may change again."  Or you can buy 4 lathes with an 8 week lead time and have your tooling supplier tell you there is a sudden run on tooling and your quick change tool holders are now 15 weeks out.  So, you can wait, or put in fixed tooling and then change them out later and re do the process.

And don't talk to me about training people.  "You want to take Joe off of machine A to train him on machine B?  Are you crazy?  Do you know how backed up A is?  Oh, and you do know Joe has 5 weeks of vacation right?"

You want a real chuckle?  Order a piece of machinery from France, Belgium, Germany or Sweden in the summer.  Can you say 8 week vacation?  That one bit me where I carry my wallet and hanky many years ago on a drill grinder from Switzerland.

I'll grump at them, but I won't really complain that much, getting a product to market isn't all that scientific or easy.

With all due respect, CZ is one of the (or maybe THE) biggest firearms manufacturers in the world. I don't buy the premise that CZ cannot marshal all the resources needed for a project that is important to them.

They are re-creating a proven design that really does not need any re-engineering, they simply need to duplicate  the original, which is a very simple process. Their reward for duplicating the original DW, for which they own the rights, is to charge 2 or 3 times the prevailing selling price for the used originals readily available in the marketplace. I'm OK with letting the sheep graze in the CZ pasture, it will never be worth $1200+ to me. Or $1000+, or $800+, well, you can see a trend here, I guess.

Thanks for tolerating another piece of the GOB Philosophy

Some of these guys ideas of how large companies work and how small nich companies or small investment companies are used and treated by large international companies are really uninformed. But sometimes they really nail it, and that's good to see now and then.

That said it's still fun reading some of the more comical comment's like Steve's when Hell freezes over was a good one. FYI shipmate a town named Hell in Montana or one of the surrounding state that a TV station back in the 50's & 60's in my southern area would report that Hell had frozen over or it was colder then Hell in St Louis or words to that effect. Thanks for trip down memory lane.

Let's not forget Hell, MI

Wikipedia:

Hell is an unincorporated community in Putnam Township of Livingston County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The community is near the border with Washtenaw County, about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Ann Arbor.

15 miles from Ann Arbor, huh!

Great post Ron S!

Even in my case with buying used machinery, it can turn into a nightmare, that is among the biggest reason I have been so slow with coming out with stuff.

But for making like 500 pistols, I don't think CZ would have to be adding machinery or workers, as this sure does not sound like a long term thing and they could just use the 1911 setup they have to make them.

But I strongly suspect they have plenty of orders for the 1911's and they didn't get the response on the 715 they would have liked (as in actual orders, remember harly canceled his orders) As such its on the backburner.

I'm getting worried.  We have four machines due to ship Christmas Eve.  Ever heard the expression "Must have been built on a Friday"?  I hope they ban thermos bottles that day.

EWK Stuff.  I hadn't heard some of your news, I am sorry to hear that, I was really hoping to see  the revolvers come back in a big way.  Unless I buy a used DW it looks like a Ruger birthday this year.

About 1/2 way to E. Lansing...hmmm. Now there's a highway to hell....

Got lost in Lansing one night on my way home on leave from K. I. Sawyer, that was in the 70's.  I doubt if it has improved any.
