I know...How could you? In the last 2 years, I have been doing something I never did in my life as a shooter, selling guns. All the guns I have ever bought were for a reason, mostly that I liked the gun and wanted it. I know a lot of people buy and sell guns regularly, something I just never got into. Things have changed, and I am now selling some of my collection, so far, about a third of it.
The guns I've sold went on Specialty Pistols, Gunbroker and a couple local friends. I have carefully evaluated the merits of each one before they were put on the chopping block. There has only been one Dan Wesson sold, that was my 722-VH10 Silhouette model.
I thought long and hard about this one, since it is a somewhat rare version. I liked the IHMSA ram logo on the shroud, the special E.T. Gates serial number, and it was a decent shooter. Being practical, I figured the only reason I got it at the time was for handgun silhouette competition in the creedmore position. It is far to muzzle heavy for standing shooting. Back in 1991, I got one of the first Freedom Arms 252 Silhouette revolvers, and it is the second most accurate .22 handgun I own.
I don't shoot much revolver competition, and any time I did, it was always with the Freedom Arms. The DW was pretty accurate, but not even close to the FA. So, over the years, the Dan Wesson was shot on practice days, just having fun with it, always with the intention of shooting it in some matches for old-time sake...just never got around to it.
So, it was time for it to go. I didn't offer it to you guys here, and I know you'll think that was a crime, but I did sell it to a friend who's in his second year of silhouette. That way I can still see the gun and shoot it on occasion. Hope selling a Dan Wesson doesn't make me an outcast here.

I don't think I would have admitted it! It's good that the 722 went to a good home! Now you just need to tell them they must join the DWF!
I have sold several guns over the years mostly duplicates. I found a 744 locally for a deal and sold it because I already had one. I've event contemplated selling my NIB 7414 but when it comes down to it I can't bring myself to do it. Sometimes I look around and wonder why I need the ones I have when I don't make time to shoot any of them!

I'm glad you sold it to a friend, that way you can still see it and know it's got a good home. There was one that recently sold on Gunbroker in the 900.00 range which I thought was very high.
Jody I know that feeling having guns you just don't seem to shoot must be that

Now that we're letting cats out of bags.. so to say. I have a model 40 for sale at my local FFL for awhile now, trying to avoid the GB blues at times. I am likely going to offer it up on GB in the near future since it has not been moving in the display case. I am also planning on moving a pair of model 15's down the road, trying to fund my remaining need of three of the five "Big Five " Model 70's in the safari collection. They are on par with buying 7414's or even worse. May take many Dan's to buy one rifle. Dean, I suppose you may stay in the club , heck you helped start the club anyways...

Once you let one cat out of the bag, the rest will follow. I don't have any duplicate guns, but the ones I sold were duplicated in purpose. Even though I enjoyed shooting the 722, it was just not needed. It was also finicky about ammo, didn't really like anything well. You can read about it in my post on Freedom Arms revolvers.
Glad I am still allowed to be in the club. And I have no more Dan Wessons going on the block in the foreseeable future.

Time will tell with all of Shoot selling some great stuff to fund other needs, Walt selling off several to fund a different direction, I for one can't bring myself to sell a Dan (yet), still hording and collecting until the day I say what the heck, why do a need more than one of each!
Hope all of you do what you need to do in this world and parting with an un shot Dan is (safe queen) is that then so be it!
Yes you can stay 110 years dang, will anything even be close to same?

A friend of mine has spent a long time collecting Rugers and has a very impressive collection of them. Just recently he said that he was going to start selling them off. I asked why and he said that the fun of collecting was just that, the collecting, the hunt for the next missing piece to fill the collection. Now that he has essentially a complete collection, he wants to sell them off and start collecting Colts. A a sailor frined of mine often says, 'its not the destination thats important, its the journey to reach it thats important'.

Scorpio, There is some truth or merit in what you say. I had done similarly with some Ertl Toy Tractor collection aspirations a few years back. Still have some of them, sold quite a few others, most of the fun is in the ride, not the destination. No matter what you are collecting, you get to meet a lot of new and interesting people along the way and that in itself has its rewards.

Hey SMF, it that your model 40 on GB? Looks sharp. Wish I had the spare change, I'd run down to E-town and pick it up. PM me which gun shop has it.
